I never have problems with ME, although sometimes Outlook and IE lock up. But they are separate.
Win2000 on the other hand I have installed six times in as many months. And I still hardly ever use it. Something is wrong there, Win2000 has much more tantrums if you change hardware and load NT4 "compatible" software.

Windows ME has been good for me. Very stable.
But don't do an upgrade. Do a clean install. Start by booting to dos and then rename the Windows folder and also win.com inside the windows folder. There may be stuff inside the windows folder that you don't want to lose. For example, all your downloaded Outlook email and all those cookies that automatically log you into websites. You probably should export all the outlook email before you start.

I just think it is too "pop-like". Loaded with features I never use.
I also miss the DOS

Windows ME is great for me for the most part. I have weird issues like, twice my registry got corrupted by that system restore really works. It could be my raid on the abit that's jacking it up. I have windows 2000 but I'm not installing it cause I want to play video games at full potential or I'd switch by now.

I do know that upgrades have gone bad many times. I installed fresh on a test box and it has been running great.

Make sure you get all drivers for your hardware. If you have enough ram I would go with 2000 prof.

NT ROCKS!!!

My first install of WinME was pretty good so I ended up buying the full version and did an install on my new system, and since then, I have reinstalled over a half dozen times trying to get drivers to load, even win me drivers. My problem is loading my video drivers (geForce 2 GTS) with my sound (sound blaster live). Either my video doesn't work right, or my sound is messed up and I end up in a vicious loop around and around uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers....Then I get pissed and format!
I agree, win2000 kicks ass but it isn't very good for games and my system is a killer gaming system. 98 just sucks hard and I really don't ever want to go back to it, and winme is ok if all your hardware is compatable but it is still too new.
I guess the choice is either, win2000 if you want a stable ass OS, win98 for a real flakey system that plays games and thats about it, or ME if you want a little bit of both worlds granted you have the right hardware.
Personally, I am going to just put 98 on for games and dual boot over to 2000 for everything else!

Just had to vent!

oh yeah.. win2000~!! works great.. damn.. web surfing.. its like click click click with like half a second delay or less.. so freegin fast.. i dunno if its me, but my downloads are faster in win2000 than win98se.. maybe my brain just thinks that way
win2000 runs quake3 and counter-strike perfect on my computer.. i heard its good for opengl stuff.. i know that it sucks for directx stuff... does anyone know about directX8? isnt it supposed to make directx stuff run good on win2000? i dunno.. thats what i heard

Stick with win98 until the first ME service pack comes out (and you KNOW there will be one), ME has stability issues, and really doesn't buy you all that much for the headache of upgrading.
