Um RC2 isn't out, RC1 isn't even out. The latest build is 2486, there are some ppl saying 2489 is out but I haven't seen it yet.

ALl the newest builds are PRE-RC1, they say RC1 during install but they are not the official RC1's. I hear milestone versions have build numbers like 2500, and 3000.

XP is a sugar coated candy ass operating system that will prevent you from doing anything useful. It will prevent you from sharing your mp3 and DivX movies with friends. It will prevent you from trying out experimental, beta or cheat enabled hardware drivers. It will probably report every single thing you do to Microsoft servers. I recommend against it. If you must have an MS OS based on the NT kernel, stay with Win2k.

"sugar coated candy ass" is a technical term. It refers to the kind of GUI design seen in OSX and WinXP.

The more i read about it the more I like it actually...but I've signed up for the RC1/RC2 demo...I think that Win2000 will be a better overall OS...

I haven't used it yet, but I've seen it in action, and I must admit, Luna GUI is a bit appealing to me. I don't know if it's worth an upgrade from Win2k, though.

Prevent you from sharing mp3??? I think not. Divx movies play fine, I also use 3rd party drivers for some of my hardware.

The article about mp3 was that Microsoft wasn't going to add mp3 ripping to Windows Media player, it has nothing to do with being able to use 3rd party applications to rip mp3 files.

If XP reported what you did to Microsoft, then Windows 2000 would also.

I agree, so many people will trash talk anything Microsoft makes. They haven't even tried it, yet they know all about it.

I myself have tried it, and it is NOT filled with a ton of bugs. Its extremely stable, especially for a BETA.

Its like they are trying to think up any excuse they can to trash it. But then again, this is a Linsux lovers hangout.

Yeah, and anyone who has tried XP would know that you can change the interface so that it looks and acts exactly like the old 2000 interface. Most people prefer to not live in the old DOS interface days.

Its really irritating me the lies spread about XP.

Yup--people have to realize that MS is not really as bad as people want you to believe. How else to unify everyone under something in common enough to share files etc.

XP will be nice--I have no idea where these rumors of no mp3 support and such come from. Are people just not thinking taking reviews for what they say and decide to misquote reviewers hence causing rumors?

I think MediaPlayer might not support mp3 playback (if that's true) but you can still use whatever mp3 player you want to play those respective files.

You see--programs such as, essentially, AOL's Winamp trive on MS Windows users and WinXP won't stop that.
