No problems here, also like many others, can't really say I've noticed a difference from SP1.

regardless of service pack.. seems like alot of the bugs are for the people that are actually using the standby or hibernation modes..

first thing I do on every install, is to go in and disable all power management.. those things are nothing but problems..

i dont need my computer to turn off my monitor for me.. I can hit the button as I stand up..

Cambrian... It seems you are in a minority. However, Operating Systems are like cats... Very picky on where they live and eat :D

As for SP2 on my system, it fixed an annoying error I kept on getting when booting:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: WinMgmt
Event ID: 37
Description:
WMI ADAP was unable to load the winspool.drv performance library due to an unknown problem within the library: 0x0

And a few other small issues (that were undocumented).

I believe SP2 is also supposed to make Win2K use 512mb+ of memory more efficiently. Since I have 512mb RAM, that is a _good thing_.

It's amazing - on my P3-933/512mb, Win2K was TONS faster than WinME..

I have heard from quite a few individuals that the first time they put their computers to standby mode and wake up again, everything works fine. But things start to go wrong after they reboot or shutdown. They can no longer wake up from standby properly after the first time. They either have the problem of crashing or complete shut down after they put it to standby.
It's the darnest thing.

had problems with sp2, after installing couldnt complete 3dmark, had to re-apply via miniport, agp patch.

I was to lazy read what sp2 actually fixes, or if you actually need to re-apply the tons of pathces or hotfix after installing it.

*play a lot of rogue spear/urban ops no problem with sp2, keep tinkering

<< Sorry to hear about your problems, but SP2 was definitely a plus for my system! I'm glad I was able to download it before leaving school. 103mb off of a dial-up connection? Damn... >>

LOL... fixed several bugs for me too.. speed up the comp too!!

My first try at sp2 was installing over a sp1 install. After I did this I lost DMA on my 2nd HDD, there was no way I could get it out of PIO. Them I made a slipstreamed sp2 CD and did a fresh install. All (including DMA on my 2nd HDD) is working perfectly now.

Works for me! Yeah a big download, but it took all of 15 mins including the download & reboot afterwards to get it installed.

Waiting for XP! :D:|:D

You're probably the only one i've heard that had any serious problems with SP2. My computers all go on standby, and i haven't had a shutdown on waking yet. And what games are you having problems in? I haven't tried R6 yet (have it though, just haven't played it in months), so i can't say, but all the games i've tried have worked.

I have trouble with Covert Ops, the newest game. It could be that my BIOS doesn't work that well with SP2. I have an Asus CUSL2 with revision 1.06

I've got 3 CUSL2 based boards that I use....2 Black Pearls and 1 CUSL2-C all with bios 1008.1 with the 815Tweak and all are doing great with SP2!;) Kids play everything imaginable on one of the Black Pearls with a 1G chip and an Ultra, so I don't think the board/bios is your problem......;)

I have to agree with Cambrian.... it has given me more problems than fixing them!

I had the same problem (problem with the performance library thing), there's an article on the MS KBase about it. Sorry, can't remember the number :)

Ok, well, I thought there were no problems at first, but then again, a newly installed win2k server started acting weird.

1) Browsing the internet using the default IE 5.01 was working only half the time.
2) Certain Cold Fusion Application server .class files for Java applets didn't work, at all. (the browse drive applet).
3) At random times, the system would hang and an event log stating an unexpected shutdown had occurred gets logged. Sometimes it's a bluescreen, at other times, it just a blank screen. The system will not even reboot with the settings on.

That's all so far, oh and yeah, this server is a SuperMicro 6010 dual 1ghz with 1gig or ram 7899 SCSI SCA drives.

SP1 works like a charm, no problems, but SP2 installed without SP1, these above mentioned problems occurred.

I uninstalled SP2 (thanks goodness for backup files), and all the problems I can test right away, went away.

I am guessing something specific with the hardware is not working properly, or conflicting with SP2. I am for now, staying away from SP2, because I've also heard of Exchange 2000 problems with SP2. Too many problems, not worth it. For home use or Pro, go ahead, you probably wouldn't notice the bugs in the latest SP.

My 2cents.

Dopefiend,

Thanks for the suggestion. But did you manage to find a solution to the problem? I hope I can find the article on the Microsoft knowledge database.

ok... i see that everyone is having a good experience with the service pack... but... should i download it before or after i install all my software??? if i am doing a clean install... cause i am havin this problem.. please help!!!! I am using an abit kt7a raid motherboard with a Radeon 64 ddr video card... also i have a philps magnavox cd-rw, a 56k modem, 52 x cd rom, aureal sound card (vortex 2 sq2500) and a network card (realtek or something like that) ok... my problem is this... i am trying to move so i tried to cleam install win 2k... so i would have a start for the school year... but ... now after 5 clean installs... i still cant get service pack 1 or service pack 2 to work properly... when installed (one at a time..) the restart would produce a stop error message... i would have to then chkdsk.. and then fast emergency recovery to fix this... however... i can't connect to the internet until i uninstall it!!! Ok.. so heres my plea... if any one with the same setup and/or know anyway i should do this ... please help... i am having an idea... should i remove... my sound card, and lan card, cd-rom and cd-rw... and try to install the service packs.. first.. then install the other stuff?? please... i really really need to solve this problem...
