Poll: Will Texas ever separate from the USA?

Apparently there is a clause in the US constitution that allows Texas to leave the union at their own discretion. Maybe they'll join Canadian confederation *😱*, or *gasp* Mexico. Maybe they can team up with Quebec and make a new country.

I have no idea. A Texan told me this and did not elaborate. I would have to read the clause verbatim before fully supporting this poll.
 
I think you have it backwards. I believe there is a clause in the Texas Constitution that allows this. It's more or less a contractual arrangement with the US that says that the US must provide certain security measures for the State of Texas. The current illegal immigrant issue have some thinking that the US is in breach of it's obligation to the contract. Therefore, Texas can secede.

Where in the US Constitution is this Clause?
 
Texas did at one time have the right to secede from the United States without recourse because it was a sovereign country when it joined, but it lost that right after the Civil War as a result of their joining the Confederacy.

Ah, I see. I know the US Constitution pretty well and he had me thinking I missed something.
 
Where's the option for "Seccession of Texas is irrelavant. The USA as we know it cannot survive much longer."?

shiner, take a look at my post. What I posted I have heard several times, have you come across the same thing. This is basically what the "Republic of Texas" (or whatever they called themselves) guys a few years ago were going on, as well as a few other seccession theories.

Man the Republic of Texas people are nut jobs. I lived in Alpine,TX during some of their trials, they truely were nutjobs.

They can have CA, as long as they understand that Berkeley is part of the deal.

 
Ummm...I really wish people would actually read the constitution sometimes. It really isn't that long. Doesn't mention Texas anywhere in there.
 
i think he meant texas constitution. i think it was on the basis that texas was a sovereign nation prior to annexation and voted to join the US.
