*POLL* Will AOL ever lose its negative image (to those in the know)?

yes and no.

to most people aol doesn't really have a negative connotation associated with it. it's a popular brand. so to the layman, there wasn't really a negative image to begin with.

for the most part, it's people like us that peruse this board that know the real deal. fortuately earthlink/mindspring is gaining ground on aol.

AOL is like prodigy
existed long before internet ever did
during the time when only BBS existed
they use to charge alot more then that prior
to the 20 dollar unlimited usage
it was a per min charge
my cousin is the craziest person alive using AOL
his parent pay for it of course he stayed on it
for 400 hour in one month and got billed 500 dollar
yes he stay on it 13 1/2 hours a day
he play this crappy online text rpg game called dragon realm
and still do today he is hooked for life
he has sold his soul to AOL for good 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁
10 more year and he will still be using aol
and guess what he say? the greatest internet provider
The AOL has got kid hooked for life
that the truth there is nothing we can do to stop them
nothing...
AOL is just about as rich as MicroSoft being just an internet provider

majority of people that sign on the internet
would definitely go with AOL
their advertisement is ridiculously everywhere
packaged in modem, soundcard, video card, monitor,
keyboard, mouse etc printer too
anything computer related
man that is scary
even on TV occasionally

aol will never clean up its act so they will never lose their negative image to people who aren't absorbed into the ignorant masses

Goldenbear...

If you remember once AOL bought Netscape, the entire Netscape project was cut back by quite a bit, causing some pretty heavy layoffs... and the fact navigator went open source prior to the purchase didn't really make AOL want to support them. That's why I said they killed NS more than MS. Netscape lost focus post AOL merger, causing them to lose ground in the browser wars. Instead of focusing on a Netscape6, they instead just threw AIM in communicator and pitched that to the public without anything better... except some security fixes.

In the trials against MS, who were in favor of the breakup and most vocal? Sun and AOL...

Well the merged with AOL because they were just shy of declaring bankruptcy. Yet Netscape 6 is still in the works, and having it in the works is better than NO Netscpae at all...

AOL is evil... I mean geez when they first came out they had horrid rates... for anywhere you wanna go access with Earthlink was only 20 bucks a month unlimited usage. They take over computers. They have given me many free backup disks and now many free coasters. And they can't possibly be making money sending their CD's in DVD cases. And people that have used AOL obviously have been brainwashed. For example, a friend of mine as I showed her the posts from this forum (she was an AOL user until she went off to college):

freesia39: AOL= ALOT OF LOSERS
****: a lot is 2 words
****: so whoever did that
****: is a loser
freesia39: just trying to find something interesting.
****: nope doesn't work
freesia39: everyone says aol sucks.
****: yet they still use it
****: now that's interesting
freesia39: nope they don't.
freesia39: they tried it to use the free hours... found it took over thier computer... and junked it.
****: UH HUH

People who refuse to acknowledge the truth. AOL may be simple to use but geez after two days on there you can find the same stuff anywhere else on the internet and more.

So, basically, NO!

EDIT: Hey Locutus of Board I'm sorry she called you a loser. She doesn't understand my AnandTech part of life.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I live less than 10 miles from AOL -- and it would be the last place I'd every apply to work at. Use their service? Yes, about 6 years ago, but I've recovered.
