Hey, I never said that fans of other teams don't suck. In fact, I think most Mets fans suck too :) They are just far less aggressive IMHO. Let me typify my disposition with an example. When I am at work and I hear two people talking about the previous night's Yankee game, I never am inclined to go up to them and say, "Yankees suck, Mets rule!" And I have never heard anyone else ever do that. Yet, if I am talking to someone about the Mets, inevitably someone will come up to us and say, "Mets suck, why don't you root for a real team?" Of course, the person who says this never knows squat about baseball and can never come up with a decent baseball reason why. I'm not saying that fans of other teams don't do this, but you see it far more with Yankee fans than any other team.

I don't consider people who don't know anything about baseball to be Yankee fans. They might think they are, but they are not.

I agree with that 100% That's the only the only thing I hate about playoff times. It is so hard to get tickets, and when you do, all it is is a bunch of suits at the game, they don't even know the game, they're there to be there. I was at a playoff game last year and they didn't even do a roll call, WTF.

Also don't worry, the Mets-Yankees rivalry will be dying, or at least softening soon. And we can all thank Bud "I can't open my mouth without making a complete ass out of myself" Selig for that. That guy is a complete cancer on the game and should not be in office.

There have been two, and only two miracle teams in the history of baseball.

The 1967 'Impossible Dream' Red Sox.

The 1969 'Amazings' Mets.

The Mets had a great team last year, especially considering they didn't have the greatest offense.

The only thing I've ever had against the Mets was 1986, but that's another story. :)

Argo, didn't we have this argument a while ago?

Yes, the Yankees have had a lot of home grown talent.

Yes, they've been able to do so because of the amount of money they have - no other team really has the resources the Yanks do when it comes to raising minor league talent. They're also able to sign players from the Dominican, Cuba, etc. for millions of dollars without batting an eyelash.

Yes, there are A LOT of annoying/bandwagon Yankee fans.

BUT, there are also a lot of Yankee fans who love the game of baseball. Fans who have been there in '70s when the rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees was infamous and downright nasty. And fans who were there in the '80s when not too much was happening - except for Steinbrenner and Billy Martin :)

<< Just because the Yankee fans you know are jerks, doesn't mean all are (myself included). Posting all this stuff trashing the Yankees makes you seem like a jerk, no better than your dumb friends. Also, real Yankee fans aren't "band-wagon fans", I have been a fan of them since 93' when I went to my first game. >>

Yes, I just want to second that. Although I hate baseball, I love hockey... and I have been a Detroit Red Wings fan since I was 8 or so (so for 11 years), and then when they started winning cups people think I jumped on the bandwagon :|

well i dunno dude but im a yankee fan since the 80s and in the 80s the yankees weren't doing crap and I still love them. if you think a team sucks just because people you encountered trash talk your team then i think you suck. those are the fans and a team sucking really has to do with the team and not the fans. please don't tell me you have never seen mets' fans trash talk the yankees. if you are unhappy about peopel talking trash about your mets go to some more games and cheer for your mets and maybe they can win some more games.

<< I'm not saying this is such a bad thing, but you have to own up to your team having an off field advantage which translates into on field wins. If Steinbrenner suddenly was the owner of another team, where do you think his new team, and conversely the Yankees, would be in 5 or 10 years?
>>

A) Don't all the teams have a salary cap?
B) The Yankees won quite a few Series' before Steinbrenner.
C) I've been a Yankee fan since before the Mets existed.

There is no salary cap in baseball. That's why teams like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc. have such insane payrolls.

EDIT:The Yankees have the highest player payroll, which is around $115 million. The A's have a $33 million MLB payroll.

Fans of high payroll teams shouldn't talk about homegrown talent because the only reason they still have that homegrown talent is because of their high payrolls. I wonder what a team like the Expos could have been like if they had significantly more cash.

I would like to see how much money each team has in TOTAL payroll. I'm talking about MLB payroll in players, scouts, signing international players, prospects, etc. I'm sure that the Yankees would be #1 by a large margin.

And finally, I'd say that Yankees fans actually do have a right to say that all other teams "suck" b/c of the last 3 years. ;)

I find this offensive:

<< most unknowledgable baseball fans tell me repeatedly that my favorite team (Mets) suck >>

so if someone isnt as knowledgeable about baseball as you they cant say other teams suck? screw that, i dont care if someone doesnt even know how many strikes make an out, if they have a favorite team, they have a right to talk smack all they want. Think of the millions of kids across the country who just love the game and envision the pros as gods (as i did as a young tike) they probably dont know jack about stats or payrolls or how teams change from season to season, but they have a favorite team, usually for a reason, the reasons are usually something like closest team to home town, fathers, older brothers, friends favorite teams, minor league affiliates, uniform colors, having seen your first ball game with that team, etc. Kids shouldn like or dislike a team because thier thier players are paid more than another team, thats just bull, baseball should be about baseball.

EDIT: BTW, im a Yankees fan nad have been since the mid 80's, I cheered for them back when they were bottom feeders as much as I do now as Champions.

Nope, no one who doesn't know what they're talking about should talk trash. This applies to anything, not just baseball. If you fall into that group, you are a moron and I don't really care what you think.

It is one thing to cheer for your team, and another to ridicule another team without good reason.
