my computer with Win98 SE, on a network, keeps on freezing periodically. My mouse would but I can't do anything with it. I would have to reboot it and then everything would be fine... until the next day. I get freezes from opening up IE 5.0 and typing in the first "W.." in the address bar. I usually have Outlook Express and Word and Excel open at the same time. Is it the motherboard or is it some hardware problem -- old scanner, old Epson printer? Also, the Win98 memory gets drain mighty quickly after a few application opened. What is going on with Win98 SE? Please advise.

here are my specs:
PIII 555
256mb PC133 Ram (Generic)
ABIT BE6 mobo
ATI 16mb Video Card
S/B 128 pci
WD 10.1 GB 7200rpm
With an Epson 480 printer, and umax scanner (fairly old)

Thank you.

well it looks like the quantity of memory is not a problem, however the quality may hurt you. power supplies are another problem child when it comes to stabillity. do you have your swap files set up correctly for windows?

Hi Neutroner,

Thanks for the replay, I am not sure what exactly you mean't by swap files set up. I never had to do that for any of my Win98 setup before, how can I check for if I did or not? I will try changing the power supply to see if that would help. thanks.
