Poll: Why do people create polls with two normal choices and one dumb choice?

This has been irking me for a while now. No offense to anyone in particular, but it seems to me that most people, when they create a simple yes/no poll here, they include an irrelevant answer choice that invalidates whatever small scientific accuracy the poll could have had. It would be ok to make a third choice of "No opinion," but including a 'funny' choice just causes people to choose the funny choice even if they normally would have chosen "yes" or "no." I'm just trying to improve the quality of the ATOT polls. If you all enjoy making polls that way then I'll shut up about this.

I always add a "n/a" or "doesn't apply" or something, because it needs to be there.

What about a poll like "When did you get your drivers license"

1) First week I turned 16
2) Sometime later than that

Well, now that poll sucks, what about people who have no driver's license? they can't view the results w/o voting, so they pick something jsut so they can see the results, and they throw the results off.

i would think it would add to the accuracy of the tests, especially if it was regarding someones opinion, agree, disagree, just be funny. only those who strongly or more than mildly agreed or disagreed would respond and the rest would choice 3 option just so they could see the poll results. also, how many choose the 3rd result also tells you something about how much people want their opinions known. either way it would help accuracy of poll, oh btw, i didn't respond to your poll because i disagreed with both responses. :)

I refuse to participate in this poll until the option for "I want Taco Bells 7 layer nachos" is added.

Yup. That's what the silly response is for

Because it's funnier to add a third choice, like here

I'd tend to agree that having the third choice for people to click on that just want to see the poll (or a funny choice, same diff) is a good idea because only people who have a mildly strong opinion will pick the "real" choices.
