(POLL) Why Did You Start Running SETI@Home? *UPDATE!* MORE ANSWERS AVAILABLE!

I started for the science, as the concept using distributed computing to search for extra-terrestrial signals intrigued me. I joined Team AnandTech SETI after I was running the GUI version on my own for a time, and I stayed (And came back) for the great company. 🙂

If you can think of any more answers that I ought to add to the Poll, Post them here and I will add them.

I started because I wanted to help find ET. I love science. That stared me on the path. Then I discovered the TeAm, that was when I started upgrading my network just for more WU's 🙂

I started because I wanted to do something with my idle cycles since I leave my computer on all the time. Might want to include that option in the poll.

I joined because I had just built a really cool rig and I wanted to see how it would stack up against other people's rig so its like a bench press contest for computer buffs. (no pun intended) 😉

I was excited when I first learned of the project back in 1997, I emailed and kept in contact then as soon as I could I started crunching sometime in the spring of 1999. I have always used only my own PC's - starting out with a lowly Pentium mmx 233.
Now with 5123 WU's to my account I am still a fan of distributed computing and the possibilities it holds.

wayy back when I first started S@H, I did it for the prospect of finding ET. Now I'm hooked on stats and using it to keep my comps useful.

Can we not give 2 answers?

I started it because i saw the screen saver on a friends computer and thought it would be cool to look for aliens (i have always dreamed), but the beer and babes is a great added extra here at the TeAm 🙂 🙂

Surely I'm not the only one that appreciates lame commentaries and races!
Oh, I think I started because of the science and ET.
But the comments and races keep me here!!! Thanks OD!
