Poll: Why did you buy your Abit KT7/Raid?

ok so lets hear it, what are your reasons for buying the KT7 raid or why would you buy it if you're in the market for a new board? let's hear it..

to be quite honest...i went wth all of the reviews about it...all the review sites said it rocked, plus i liked the fact that it had raid support and that it had an isa slot for nic card and i didnt have to mess with dip switches to set the clock etc.... all in all i am very happy with the board, i guess im one of the lucky ones! im even using a maxtor diamond max HDD with it with no problems, yet!

i like you am using a diamond max on it and i have had some problems but i fixed them by moving the hdd to the raid channels. i'm going to get another one and run them in stripe mode so i can get even better performance out of them. hopefully that will remove some of the bottlenecks of disk perf.

i honestly cant complain...its been good to me so far. i do want to get two ibm 75xp's 15 gig HDD and raid them to see what i can push this bad boy too. did you notice any disk improvements sinc adding your HDD to the raid channels? im thinking about it and wasnt sure if its worth the trouble.

yes for me it was well worth the trouble, stopped having freezes and disk performance is better. does anyone know where i can get a utility to test my throughput?

yeah that soft menu3 is great. i love being able to change my processor to any speed i want anytime i want without even opeing my computer.. 🙂

Ditto all the above ... the best available at the time, Softmenu overclocking, voltage is adjustable, ATA 100, etc. No problems here using 3 Maxtor HDDs, 2 NICs, TNT and/or Voodoo3, ISA modem.

Pretty happy with it. First good board to easily overclock socket-a processors. Took some tweaking but have a 250mhz overclock on a feature rich, stable board.

come on guys, we need more votes on the poll, it looks like "down with abit" is winning in a pro abit thread...what's with that???

Bought it cus I wanted the overclocking options and I've read so many good things about it. I wanted the Asus A7V but no one had on for sale on this board. I wanted the raid version to but no one had one for sale so I got the non raid and it's a damn fine board an REALLY stable!

Funny, lots of people bought it for the full jumperless.... yet the MSI Pro2 is cheaper, more stable, and has just as many features (including full jumperless), and it isnt made by abit who has been known to have poor QA in the past.

Dulanic:

Most people still think Abit is the only brand that can allow you to overclock!

The fact is, MSI and Asus has everything Abit has for overclocking. I can understand peer pressure, but thats not a very smart move when buying a piece of hardware, especially motherboard.

Heh... well, people's opinion often reflects the truth.

A few reasons for me:

1. I've got one 30-gig IBM 75gxp right now, eventually I'll add another one and RAID them - I do a lot of music editing and really want the extra speed for dealing with large .wav files.

2. Easy overclocking - didn't know about the MSI at the time or else it wasn't out (this was a few months ago, and the KT7-RAID seemed to be THE OCing board at the time). Got my Duron 600 running at 935 rock stable, and I could push it higher if I had better RAM.

3. Uniformly excellent reviews at first, although to be fair I've seen one or two since then that take Abit to task for quality control issues.

4. Bought the non-RAID for a friend and it was a pleasure to work with.

Overall, once I disabled ACPI in Win2K, I've been EXTREMELY happy with this board. That said, due to good reviews, a good price, and no use for RAID, my next Duron build (for my sister) will use the MSI K7T Pro2.

Abit makes good motherboards what are all of you saying! My KT7 has been running win98 for a week without a reboot and never crashed once. Longest I could ever keep it up that long with my Asus P3V4X was 2 days tops and my Asus P2B-LS crashs like every day.

Also had a Abit BH6 and was alot more stable then my asus boards.

Abit boards are good boards when you just purchase them, but after a while all those little miscellaneous things, such as fan connectors will stop working (even CPU one), second IDE channel will not recognize any hard drives, one of the memory slots will fail every single time, you won't be able to boot up from floppy any more, etc... will get you after a while. Sure, Abit boards are great out of the box, but I haven't seen anyone who would review the same Abit board after 6 month of use or so. Also, just on a side note, the only two brands of boards Anand uses in his servers are Asus and MSI 😛
