No idea, but I like how Tom Silva looks. Looks less like a douchebag than Holmes...

Silva is old school. I'd hire him in a second to work on my house. No doubt he would win.

Tom Silva looks like he's ready to work and talk about fishing.

Mike Holmes looks like he's ready to yell at minimum wage workers hired off the street to work for him, and talk about douching. (Gold chain on a construction site? Really?)

I don't know why but that is the funniest thing I have read today.

After watching Tom Silva tonight on This Old House, there's no way Vila could match him. He is professorial when it comes to carpentry. I bet he has never had anything frustrate him while working; he is implacable. I picked the neutral reply because Mike always "does it right the first time".

Mike Holmes looks slimy. Silva looks like he would make a mistake here and there but be upfront about it.

Yeah... my money is on Norm. Or Al from Tool Time. Everybody loves Al.

Tom can bring in his "This Old House" buddy Norm to work for him. Al was modeled on Norm actually.

Don't know who Holmes is, but who's he gonna bring in? Mr. T?!

Mike Holmes is one of the most dedicated and compassionate Home Renovators out there. He treats all his staff and sub-contractors very well.

Mike Holmes > Silva

I don't know who is better since they are both TV persona, and they may not be real trades men.

According to some old school plumbers around here Mike Homes was a former mediocre plumber that couldn't plumb his way out of a bathroom if his life was depends upon it. However, he may not be a bad general contractor because the guy doesn't have to be on tools. That said, I don't know who Tom Silva is, nor his background.

According to Wikipedia Tom Silva is a co owner of Silva Brothers' Construction, therefore I would take his words over that of Mike Homes.

"Mike Holmes learned his craft from his father, who started teaching him construction work (ie. electrical, plumbing) when he was 6 years old. By the time he was 19, Holmes had started his first contracting company, with a crew of 13 employees. At 21, Holmes founded his own renovation company. He has run two companies during his 20-year contracting career." - from wikipedia.

Thanks, I saw that in Wikipedia when I looked him up.

I got the part that he learn his craft from his father from the old schools plumbers around here so as Mike Holmes fly by night renovation company that quickly fall apart. Therefore, he got out of the plumbing side of things.....I'm not sure as how good he is with tools or as a general contractor.

BTW I recommend checking out holmes on homes on hgtv. It's like extreme makeover but without the self-serving feel good cheese so thick you need a barf bag, plus you actually see the details of how they do things; you'll pick up some specific building approaches instead of just design approaches.

Tom Silva because he's been around forever, doesn't look like he knows how to act for the TV, and knows his shit. Also, he doesn't wear overalls with wifebeaters and gold chains, a definite plus.

I'm sure Norm Abram is a much better carpenter than Tom, but Tom knows a lot more about general home repair than Norm ever will (or needs to, really).
