I have invariably routed for the AFC team in the Superbowl since the 1985/86 season, starting with the Pats vs. Bears. Needless to say there were some bad years there. I have a special affinity for the Pats, especially in the last few years now that they've learned not to shoot themselves in the foot at key moments of the game.
That said, I'm sure that the Panthers are capable of winning. Any given Sunday and all that. All you need to do is look at the teams the Bengals beat this year, or the teams that beat the Vikings. I think the most likely outcome is a Patriots win that fails to beat the spread.
Despite the impressive win streak, the Patriots have won many of their games by pretty close margins. Granted, New England fans are starting to have faith that their team can hold on / come back to win at the end, but if the Patriots made more of a habit of putting teams away before the 4th quarter (like the final game of the season vs. the Jets), there would probably be fewer heart problems in the general New England population.
