The real question is how big the line will end up being, and if Carolina will cover the spread. The over/under might end up being interesting though.

It will open with the Patriots -7. Over/Under 37, but both lines are expected to move.

I'm surprised the O/U is that high. I think 9 will be more accurate--Pats 6, Panthers 3.

Cats might be good in their division but PATS are just out of their league :).

The Patriots will win of course. Come on, 14 straight wins!! They cannot lose. BTW, I am a New Englander(Providence, R.I. specifically), and I am sooo glad the Pats are going to win the SB again.

i think the panthers have a very good chance...

they destroyed the #1 defense in football (cowboys)
they did a pretty good job against some of the best wide-recievers in the league in a stadium where they had won the last 14 games (rams)
went into one of the most hostile stadiums and demolished the eagles

pats have a great def., but better then the cowboys?
pats have good offense, but not better then the rams
and it will be nuetral stadium

I think the Pats have a much better D than the Cowboys plus there is no better Defensive Mind in Football today than Belichek. However the Panthers do stand a good chance, better than any other NFC team would have, mostly due to their hard nose defense.

I have invariably routed for the AFC team in the Superbowl since the 1985/86 season, starting with the Pats vs. Bears. Needless to say there were some bad years there. I have a special affinity for the Pats, especially in the last few years now that they've learned not to shoot themselves in the foot at key moments of the game.

That said, I'm sure that the Panthers are capable of winning. Any given Sunday and all that. All you need to do is look at the teams the Bengals beat this year, or the teams that beat the Vikings. I think the most likely outcome is a Patriots win that fails to beat the spread.

Despite the impressive win streak, the Patriots have won many of their games by pretty close margins. Granted, New England fans are starting to have faith that their team can hold on / come back to win at the end, but if the Patriots made more of a habit of putting teams away before the 4th quarter (like the final game of the season vs. the Jets), there would probably be fewer heart problems in the general New England population.

Just to be sure, y'all know that there is no way to accurately pick the winner, right? With the million-and-one freaky things that could happen? I'd give the Pats a stastical edge, but not a big one. And I'll be cheering the Cats of course. Did you know that "Panther Blue" was called "Cadiac Blue" before the Panthers even picked it? Funny how that nickname has attached itself to the Cats who love to win the close ones.

!Go Panthers!

I saw that game at college with a bunch of other students. We all started out cheering for the Bears, but by halftime we all switched to the Pats. Geez, what a lopsided game that was.

So didn't the Pats

went into one of the most hostile stadiums and demolished the eagles
Not to take away from their win, but the Eagles weren't really a tough team to beat, they fell apart.

pats have a great def., but better then the cowboys?
IMO yes

pats have good offense, but not better then the rams
Agreed, but it all comes down to how they perform, not how good they are. BTW: We have a kickass QB, who IMO should've been looked at harder as an MVP. We have a solid WR lineup, good TE, and Smith has been heating up as a HB, I think our offense will be greatly underrated this game.
