Poll: Who took the PSATs yesterday?

I did. Did anyone else here?
I'm pretty sure I did great on the math part, but I'm a little shaky on the verbal (I left 5 blank and I'm sure I got some wrong)

Does anyone remember the math free response question with the line and points A, B, C, D, and E, where segment AB was congruent to BC and CD was congruent to DE? You were supposed to find the length of BD I think. I got 4.5...did you guys get the same?



What do you think was easier, the math or verbal?

When I took it 10 years ago, I thought the verbal was easier then the math.

Dude, the SATs are soooooo easy. Just you wait.

I took it yesterday.. and YES!! the answer was 4.5

I got that one.. but had to leave 2 blank on math

I ROCKED the verbal though.. thank god I'm a bookworm

That seemed to be a toughie around here not many of us got it.. (of course I did). If you can think of any other problems I'd love to compare answers

Good to know. Did you get 29 for the 2nd to last and then 108 for the last? Also, did you get E (3^5) for the one where x < y < z and (y^x)(y^z)?

No, I said that was as Resident is to Community. How did you make that comparison?

I took em yesterday. I definately bombed the Math sections badly. Math has never been my strong point. Verbal was a snap though

Holy geez that x < y < z and (y^x)(y^z) problem kicked my ass. Not only did I spend entirely too much time on it but I ended up skipping it in the end.. agh! Makes me feel better you think it was E though.. I had C filled in until the absolute last second possible when I erased it.

Neither of those answers ring a bell.. what about 10 for the first one?

Oh yeah and did I mention I am TERRIBLE!! at math?


Oh, do you remember how many &quot;E&quot; answers you had for the writing portion? I got 8.. man o man that section wasn't much fun though.

You *might* be able to take the one on the 21st, but I think it's past the registration deadline. Check here to be sure, though.

I don't remember anything from the writing section since I kind of zipped through it, which I may end up regretting. But I consider myself a pretty strong writer, so I don't think I could have done that terribly.

I only remember a few that stuck out since I've got a horrible memory.:Q What was the first math question?


This is how I got 3^5:

When you multiply two exponential numbers with the same base, all you do is add the exponents, so the answer would be y^(x+z). x had to be less than y, the base, and z had to be greater than it. 3^5 was the only answer where these conditions could be kept true (if x=1 and z=4, then x+z=5 and x<y<z). Does that make sense? I'm kinda tired so I apologize if it's clear as mud.



Ah, that makes sense. I said resident and community because nomads live in dwellings and residents in communities. Bad logic on my part.

Eegghh I don't remember the question, only that the first couple of answers on the non-multiple choice math were whole numbers, and one my buds agreed with me.

I put 4.5, w00t! I thought I was wrong Overall I felt it was pretty easy although I needed like 5 more minutes on the second math section (with the non-multiple choice ones).

For some reason my school is taking them on Saturday, not yesterday. I read the study guide and sample tests and realized that this test is easy as hell. No use studying.

Yea, I also took the PSAT yesterday (tuesday). It was really easy. Especially the math. I thought that I would be having Calculus questions on it and stuff, but it is all simple math. Oh, and the answer to the ABCDE one is 4.5. Since 9 = 2x + 2y, and the section they wanted to know is x + y, then you know it will be half of nine, or 4.5.

The one questions I didn't answer out of all the math questions was the one with the *(star) with a circle around it. It was something like 3 (*)k = 6 (*) 2k. I didn't exactly know what the symbol means, but now that I think of it, I know the right answer. Aargghhh!

Hey if you guys don't know already, when you have complicated algebra problems with a lot of x's and y's just plug in real numbers. It makes the problem 1000 times easier. A bit of advice, take it for what it's worth.

well, im sure as youall know, the only reason to even bother taking the PSAT is to get the hookup for scholarships... when I took it (I am a college sophomore now) the score to beat was a 206, which came out to be something like 93 - 96%. I made something like a 212, I don't exactly remember. (It was 99%, though).

National merit looks reeeeeeeeeel good for colleges. If you do at least that well, you will need a new house to put all the college stuff in.

inquis is right - if you end up getting National Merit, colleges will be begging you to come their way. I had about fifteen different colleges offer me a free ride just for being a Merit Finalist - I didn't even get the National Merit Scholarship itself. 8 free college semesters is nothing to scoff at.

Inquis, you got a 212 on it? What was your GPA in highschool? Maybe I will be able to get a high enough score. It seemed easy enough.

And does anybody know how long it takes to get the scores back?

Sat's suck. I my score was 800 math / 540 english.

I took the PSAT on Tues. also. The answer was 9/2 = 4.5 for that math one you all are talking about, 3^5 was also correct, and CHAMELEON:APPEARANCE was correct. 29 was the correct answer for the Venn diagram about the countries; 108 was the correct answer for the area of the figure which was the last grid-in problem.

I thought the analogy with MERCURIAL in it was tough; I went with the answer that had DEVIOUS in it (don't remember what the other words in that question were). I skipeed 2 verbal, no math, and 1 writing. Speaking of which, anybody remember any writing that they thought was particularly hard so that we can compare answers?
