SiS has been doing pretty good for themselves lately, making pretty decent chipsets.

ive always despised via.

440BX was my favorite, but it's getting over the hill.

Agnes, Denise, and Paula. Still fire them up occasionally.

For the poll I will vote for VIA. Hell I don't have a favorite chipset, but its wahat my mobo uses and it has been a rock stable, zero problem setup for me.

I voted AMD since I prefer their CPU's, and have had better experiences building systems around the Irongate than the KT133.

Although my experiences with the i440BX cannot be forgotten.
I helped a friend build a system around the SiS 735 and the thing has grown on me as well (and my old SiS 530 based system was good to me).

But AMD still wins.

For old school, 440BX

For new stuff, the i8xx chips are really sweet. 815x, 845x, 850x, all good stuff.

I never have problems with boards using their chipsets.
But my favorite board of all time was my epox 8k7a.

Though long on the tooth, the Intel 82440BX chipset was one of the best chipsets ever made. But among currently popular chipsets, there is no single winner; it's a dead heat at the top IMHO between Intel 845G and 850/850E, SiS 645/645DX and 735 chipsets, and VIA KT266A and KT333 chipsets.

Intel 850 for P4
SiS 735/745 for Athlon/Duron
BX for Slot-1 / Socket 370 (my fave Chipset of all time) though been moving over to Tualatin 815s with newer stuff
TX for socket-7 (but liked the HX too)

I generally HATE VIA, but have had success with the 694T Tualatin chipset - the one where the AGP actually works better than ISA ;)

who makes your favorite chipset? - isn't that a good geek pickup line?

my experience (currently) is limited to intel & via & i prefer the latter.

440BX. Nothing I used before, and nothing I've used since, has come as close to the raw stability I got from the 440BX Abit board I used to own. Too bad it's getting so long in the tooth.

Hmmm I don`t have a favourite chipset as well & never had any problems with my Intel,SiS or VIA boards, however I do go with good motherboard brands when buying a board..
