It is obvious now that

<< I invented the internet. I also invented the question mark and the potato >>

The Romulans did since "there is no peice of technology they dont claim to have invented first" - ST😀S9

military so that if we (Americans) were ever attacked (by Russians primarily)and Washington was taken out (by a nuke) then our whole system wouldn't collapse and leave us defenseless. At least that's what they said in some video in CS 101.

qacwac, the Military indeed invented the internet. It wasn't available to the public for the longest time. Same with GPS. The military invented that too but they have far greater technology accessible to them than say you and I.

You know what's stupid? In the Netzero commerical, they claim that the internet was created for the people and by the people. Sure it was made by the "people" but it was not made for the "people".

I was reading in Backpacker that Clinton has made the civilian GPS's better. It was saying that the government has always required slight faults in all of them except for the military, thus limiting their accuracy. But now they are about equal I think. To within 10 meters I believe.

By the way Backpacker is really cool.

Right now fifty ppl of this board claim the above for them.... hmmmmm makes me think about mental health in this place...... 😉
edit: see sig

Internet was launched in 1962 by US pentagon. Its a long story, i dont feel like telling it all

I heard that story before, nonetheless, I "think" I invented the internet

Improved GPS to the level of the military? That is highly doubtful because their level of technology is too advanced for civilian use. Their technology can pin point a person anywhere on Earth. No way in hell will civilians ever need that much. I wouldn't doubt the fact that they're providing us with better GPS technology than before but nowhere near what the military has.

?During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.?

Well, it just shows that americans generally don't have a large vocabulary or grasp on definitions like al gore.

you've forced me to bust out my CS101 notes.

The internet was started in the 60's by the dept. of defense.

(Then there's a few doobles of a mass of flaming computers and some skulls and crossbones)

They called it ARPANET and it was the first network of computers.

i read a book on this "when wizards stay up late" in high school. Its the guys who founded BBN (backbone provider) i think UUnet bought them. Them and a guy who was in charge in darpa got them to do it. I know the two Bs stand for bolt , and beranek, when i visited MIT i knew beranek was giving a lecture there, they all worked at MIT's lab i think, or maybe just in the massachusetts area. The first node was installed at UCLA, i recall that the lines were 64k, and they used digital pdp-8s or something as packet routers. The guy who invented packetswitched networking might have been with the, i dont know.
