Poll: Who here is an objectivist

I keep getting them mixed up. Does that mean I like to be tied up and spanked or she likes to be tied up and spanked?

So far, "WTF is objectivism?" is winning.

Personally, I believe in much of the philosophy, but I cannot abide by the belief that God does not exist.

Yup, I read the required Ayn Rand books, but I couldn't embrace it.

Interesting philosophy, though.

I've been meaning to read Rand, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. They're sitting on the shelf next to my desk whenever I get the urge.

BoberFett,

You, in particular, will find it to be some of the best reading you've ever done. Atlas Shrugged rules.🙂

Russ, NCNE

I was gonna read Atlas Shrugged for my English term paper, but unfortunately 1100 pages doesn't work well when you've got narrow time constraints. Maybe this summer...

Read atlas shrugged.

You'd like it.
The only thing I find wrong is that objectivism is essentially a realistic sort of atheist-materialism.

I do believe in God but I am not religious in the sense one usually means. I am not completely materialistic but I am very proud of my work and life.

anyone who has never read her work, I urge you to do so. It's quite good.

objectivism is original idea, ayn rand is bloody hypocrite.
Also her way of life is no way applicable and her ideas about how the economic should run is fallacious due to her lack of understanding of economic theory.

<< ayn rand is bloody hypocrite >>

Actually, Ayn Rand is dead. And, if you honestly believe the garbage you just puked up, then I'd suggest you choose a more appropriate handle such as "Idiot".

Russ, NCNE

Objectivism for me is and has been a very useful, fulfilling philosophy. After a point, though, it's zealous practice can be called into question:

The Unlikeliest Cult

Skepticism is an even more useful and fulfilling philosophy.
