Plextor is pretty good.

Now Compaq on the other hand. Wanted me to pay like 20$ to be able to ask a question concerning an almost new laptop. And don't even try to find drivers on that crappy site...

The storage products dept. at Sony. I bought a retail Sony 5x dvd kit and after a couple of months the hollywood plus card that came with it went bad. No problem I thought, I have a one year warranty according to the box which also states there is "24 hour, 365 days a year tech support by phone." Too bad nobody picks up the phone. You are put on hold and the machine automatically hangs up on you after exactly 45 minutes (I timed it a couple of times). I got through once at 3 am. I faxed them my receipt and relevant info like they told me to and they never got back to me. I tried calling again and got hung up on by the machine. I finally had to fax them a semi-angry letter to get results. Blah.

Also their website pretends like my sony dvd drive never existed and their are no customer support email addresses for their storage products. Every company should have email customer support.

Mem, yes, me too I guess, I've always been very happy with Logitech, Microsoft, Cherry, ATI, Matrox, Asus, Supermicro, Abit, Gigabyte, Intel, Sony, NEC, Pioneer, 3-Com, IBM, Fujitsu, Seagate, Maxtor and Creative hardware products (in 10 years, dozens of each, professional as well as private, never seen anything broken with any of them). One failed network card with D-Link was replaced instantly.

However, I've seen too many broken Western Digital drives which neither resellers nor manufacturer would touch. Needless to say I won't touch another WD product. I've had a couple of iffy Quantum drives too, but after firmware fixes they worked fine (shame we lost the data on them).

What? No Fry's Electronics on the list? I realize they are only a regional chain but I believe they are famous world-wide for their atrocious customer service.

I voted for Southwestern Bell as the worst.

We waited 62 days on a DSL connection which never came. Called up Time Warner on a Sunday night at 10 PM and had broadband in less than a week. Reliable broadband with a living person on the other end in tech support.

Back to Southwestern Bell: Sent e-mails to managers, made phone calls to managers. Had acquaintances in the company attempt to escalate the problem. All in vain. They promised us DSL on a certain date and could not deliver. First, it was due to demand. Then it was because the drop in our area was full. Come to find out, the appointment for installation which was supposedly booked, was in reality never made.

They ticked us off so bad over this, we discontinued local and cell phone service with those clowns. Went with MCI for local phone and long distance. Almost put up a swbellissuck.org website. I'd do it if I had the time.

Had some of my IRA invested in SBC Communications Inc. (parent of company of SW Bell, Pac Bell and Ameritech) stock. Sold it and sent a copy of the sales transaction to the company CEO with a letter explaining that his customer service is the worst on the planet.

SBC Communications is evil.

Without a doubt, Worst err... BestBuy. I went round and round with one of their dunderhead managers about a nintendo game. She tried to tell me that the instructions said that to save a game you needed to remove the game cartridge, so therefore she would not allow me to return the game. I argued for about 15 minutes, then just left. Got home and called the store to talk to another manager, got her again. I asked her for the number for the district manager, she told me that They could not give it out. She gave me the 800 number, for customer service, which by the way I called and they said that info can only be given out at store level. We went back and forth again, I then asked for her last name and she said XXXXX ummm... Smith. I told her that I didn't just sneak across the border the previous night. It was then that she decided to tell me that she was hanging up because I was yelling and using profanity, which I never swore at her. I did raise my voice but that was it. I will NEVER step foot in that store again. You would think that a newly opened store would wait a while before screwing with people. Sorry for the rant.

bellatlantic...err.. Verizon DSL. If you have a problem, you're on your own. Or you can wait 45-2hours for some dumbass of a tech support. my dsl went down.."try turning it off and on, unplug all your wires and try again" what kind of ganster tihs is that. It took about 12 weeks to install my current DSL line, with about 3 weeks of tossing my no-dsl problem between loads of ignorant employee's. Rather then trying to fix it, they blame other departments. They suck..it's like aol, but faster. Sure it can be nice on it's good days, but when it's down, you're fawked. by the way, the e-mail has been down for the past 3-4 days. nice.

There is good Tech support and bad tech support. I hope you are part of the solution and not the problem. :) I work in tech support too, but I would hope that most people I have tried to help believe I did a good job. We can't please everyone, we just do our best.

That being said, now it's my turn to b!tch......... :)

I called Charter@home 30 times before they got my cable fixed.

I didn't recieve a HSF from ocz.safeshopper.com for 2.5 months I sent them about 7 emails asking where it was and never got a straight answer.

Fry's Electronics. This would have more votes if they had more stores. They are legendary for bad service. One of the prerequisites for working in the computer department there is you have to know absolutely nothing about computers.

you don't have the company i want to vote for, GUILLEMOT. they suck big time for customer service. i went through hell trying to get rebate for video card from them. it took them from 6/30/2000 to 11/13/2000 to mail me my rebate and that was only after i contacted the BBB and they contacted them about it. i even had one GUILLEMOT rep call me greedy for wanting my rebate. i will never buy another GUILLEMOT product as long as i live!!!!

GUILLEMOT, was cool to me.
When I got my new card, I had trouble getting rid of the old 3dfx drivers. They helped me.
