besides their crappy coverage and dropped connections, their voicemail system just plaing SUCKS.

no date or timestamp on when the message was sent and you cannot skip/delete messages without listening to them in their entirety.

do other wireless carriers have these crap ass options with voicemail?

I very rarely use my AT&T Wireless voicemail but I know for a fact you can skip a message and you can find out when a message was received (although it doesn't provide it when listening to the message).

Oh yeah I hate AT&T voicemail. The timestamp (lack of) thing is really stupid. And if you get an annyoing telemarketer, you have to listen to the WHOLE DAMN THING before you can delete the message. I'm going back to Sprint for this and other reasons on why I dislike AT&T service.

I had to switch. My contract with ATT wireless isn't up until Feb, but I went down to a cheap plan, and went to Verizon. So far I'm LOVING Verizon. ATT was constant dropped calls, garbled conversations, no signal, network busy, no in-building reception, etc. So far I've had NONE of those problems with Verizon.

Try listening to the directions sometime. You can delete a message before it's finished. You hit 77. And it does have a timestamp. Hit 5

Hit 33 to skip to the end of the message. I wish it had a timestamp, but other than that, I like the service.

Read above. You hit 5 to hear the timestamp.

coverage isnt crappy, but not as good as verizon

Uh ok thanks for the tips. Will use them. But the timestamp should be automatic like most other services. And that does not forgive their crappy reception and DROPPED CALLS that I get all the time standing in Dallas or Houston. Now that's unforgivable.

I see that. 🙂

I found this out by playing around with the voicemail system one day when I was bored sitting on the metro. Lotsa different features in it. 🙂

i remember on the old tdma network there was an option to enable auto timestamping, but i have yet to find the same one on the gsm network..

I am on the GSM network and I know that there is an option in voicemail settings to have it autostamp date/time. I have it on and I know that I turned it on when I first migrated, but I can't recall the menu commands offhand. I'll check it out later if I have a chance.

Edit: Also, I live in Baltimore and mainly travel between here and NYC and I don't have any coverage problems or drop call problems. I use a Nokia 6200, so maybe that's part of it.

yeah youre not too smart.. its pretty easy to set up the timestamp and very easy to skip messages. maybe you should actually find out if you can do things before you start bitching about them 🙂

anyway, where i live att works really well.. maybe its just your area

RTFM that came with your phone, it tells you how to operate your voicemail

LOL, exactly....

I have timestamp turned on. I had to turn it on in one of the menus. Here are some basic things you need to know about the voicemail:

3 is to FF, 1 is to rewind, # is to skip.

Also, I never experience dropped calls here in Long Island, NY. And when I went to Atlanta and Dallas as well. Using a Nokia 8390.

I have ATTWS in Portland, OR, and the coverage is pretty good. I rarely get calls dropped. The VM system works fine for me once I figured out you can hit 337 to immediately delete a message.

Only problem I have is that my phone (Nokia 3360) is a total POS and I want to get a new one soon. I just wrote an Epinion a couple of days ago that summarizes the problems I've had with this thing.

verizon wireless does not timestamp the voicemails...

there are options in your voicemail setup that do that for you 🙂. By default it won't hear the timestamp info.

Now you know that you can just hit 77 instead of 337 🙂

Yes, that will save me valuable seconds each month! 😉 😛

well before they changed the voice mail it was just 3 to skip to the end and 7 to delete, now they gotta throw in that damn double number system...the fvckers.

this is awesome...we have a ton of stupid people that don't know how to operate voicemail. maybe if a bunch of you cancel sercice ATT will get scared and drop their prices. w00t.
