POLL: Which Xbox NFL game will be your starter?

Madden is generally my favorite series... But with no online play yet again, it's hard to get too jazzed about it.

ESPN NFL Football (aka NFL2k4) will offer online play, but that series has never "done it" for me.

Microsoft's NFL Fever looks to be the weakest and least realistic of the bunch, but XSN looks awesome and will probably make Fever my #1 pick.
For those unaware, XSN will enable gamers to create and join leagues online where all of your stats, box scores, and win/loss percentages will be tracked for you by Microsoft. It's like a fantasy sports league where you actually play the games, and if you've ever played fantasy sports on ESPN.com, you'll feel extremely comfortable with the entire look and feel of the design. Gamers will be given a reliability rating depending on how many leagues and tournaments you actually complete (up to five stars), so serious gamers can then start leagues where only five star (the most reliable) players can play without fear of starting a league where one of the teams never shows up for a game. League size can be either 8, 12, 24, or 32 teams, leagues can be made either private or public, and you will even have a trophy case to show off all of the leagues and tournaments that you've won.

One of the coolest aspects of XSN, however, is the fact that you can set up the entire league from your PC, enabling you to easily type in all of the information, rather than using the controller. You will also be able to check on scores and send messages via your PC throughout the day, even if you don't have access to your Xbox. There will be a personal message area, a friend (buddy) list, along with rating stats for games played, games completed, tournaments completed, and leagues completed. And the best part is, all of this will be free?for now. Microsoft does plan on adding more enhancements as time goes on, including a real-time ticker for games being played in your league, along with full player stats for every game you compete in, but with that extended functionality will eventually come a price. We just don't know how much yet. One thing Microsoft does promise, though, is that there will always be a portion of the XSN service available for free, and that indeed is something to bust an Icky Shuffle or Dirty Bird for, at least for the time being.

thats awesome, that XSN whatever it was. But FEVER SUCKS. I mean its like NFL blitz but with a full team. I was playing online having scores over 100 points. Thats no fun.

NFL2k3 was the best.

XSN does sound sweet as hell. I wish EA would get their head out of the sand and set up something like this. What would be great is if they would actually get their XBOX games online, then allow playing between consoles. THAT alone would stir up some fanboy rivalries.

I'm actually pretty curious as to how ESPN (NFL2K4) will turn out. I HATE the name change, and think it's completely pointless, but I love the ESPN tie-in. I used to be a huge fan of NFL2K and NFL2K1 back on the Dreamcast, but have grown away from the series and gone back to Madden. Madden just trumps everything about the NFL2K series.

I guess it mainly comes down to your style of play. IMO, the NFL2K series has definitely gone more towards the arcady feel and Madden has refined the momentum physics. Sega is supposedly reworking a LOT in this years installment, so it'll be a rental.

With Madden's new coaching and dynasty options, it's hard to choose anything but Madden. In the end, Fever just isn't a great football game. But with each new season of games, everyone has a chance (except Gameday 😉).

EA will probably never support Xbox Live and hell, I wouldn't be suprised if they dropped the Xbox game publishing all together. They have been in bed with Sony for a number of years already so I figure Sony is probably slipping them a ton of money, either that or they just really hate Xbox Live because it competes with their network in which they will start charging PS2 players adventually.

Most (if not all) Sega's 2K3 games support 720p (I am sure their successors will too), I just don't play sports games so I am wishing they will make some other game that supports HD resolutions so I will have an excuse to buy a HDTV.

Is there a site that lists them? I looked a few weeks ago and only found threads that contradicted themselves.

😕

madden 2004 is crap for the simple fact they didnt enable online play for xbox, i think thats retarded.

just because of that, ill probably end up w/ fever 2004 because i like it better than nfl2k series and its LIVE compatiable.

ESPN NFL and maybe madden..it doesn't seem like gameplay has changed much since last year's Madden(which was good, but after you play season after season, it gets boring)..I think it just has some new features and updated AI & animations..most of which were in NCAA 2004 and the game isn't that great...Sega's game seems to have changes that are more gameplay related, plus new features, which look pretty good..but i'm looking forward to the hockey games(ESPN NHL 2K4, Hitz Pro, Rivals, NHL 2004) more than anything else.

Ah yes... But that's for a different POLL. 😉

I'll be playing Madden 2004 online on my PS2. 😀 😛

(please excuse the thread crap 😱)
You're excused... This time. 😉

When I had my PS2, I had Madden '03.

Online play was great... When you found someone with a decent connection, or that didn't quit as soon as they started to lose. Those things seemed to happen A LOT.

While the same problems still occur with Xbox Live, they definitely aren't with the same frequency.

I thought MS was crazy for creating Live to be broadband only. But now it was obviously a great call on their part.

never was a big football video game fan.

now-- if NHL2004 has anything like XSN-- then i'm all over it. 😀

anyhow- i voted for NFL fever becuase becuase i've been a fan of the series. Even though it might not be as realistic-- its more fun IMO. (100 point games rock)

NHL2004 won't even have online play, on the Xbox.

But NHL Rivals (MS's NHL game) will support XSN! 😀
