To me, it's Ideologue.

Liberal is actually a good term. Republicans attempted, and succeeded, in attaching a negative tone to it in the '90s.

Ideologues, such as those in the administration, do not foster debate and are one-dimensional in their policy-making. Scary actions for a government of, by, and for the people.
