I should be fine for gaming then? No performance decrease? How about overclocking?Originally posted by: Shawn

@ Vista users: Thank you for beta-testing W7 for us for the last couple years.
No problem. *tips hat*
I don't know who I hate more, the people who bashed Vista relentlessly without just cause, or those who are now jumping on the W7 bandwagon because for some reason it's "cool".
No, I like W7 because I'm using the beta right now, and this is what Vista should have been.
How good does it work for gaming? I just ordered the parts from new egg for my rig thats in my sig. Should i install vista 64 or go to Windows 7 right off the bat?
If you don't mind reinstalling in Aug, go for the Windows 7 beta.

I'm pretty sure the Win7 beta is hardcoded to check the MS time server, so you can't just give a wrong time and hope to install it after the Aug deadline.
As for Win 7, whatever version I can get with my academic licence. Probably Pro I guess.

What does the OS have to do with overclocking?
I have my el cheapo ECS G31 board running an E5200 at 3.24Ghz, and it's fine..

Despite all the praise I hear already of Windows 7 stability and all that, I'm not touching it until the first service pack or everybody agrees that it's more stable and a viable upgrade to XP.

It would be better if you just downloaded it and tested it yourself. However I don't think it is intended to replace XP, more intended to replace Vista and the bad image that people have of it.
