Professional or Ultimate, depending on which one I can get for $20 on campus or $65 through MS Ultimate Steal (if they keep it going).

Currently using Vista Ultimate x64.

Linux. Windows is too expensive, otherwise I'd invest in it. Heck, even my hardware is secondhand. :p

I'm only just starting to think about installing the copy of Vista I bought a year or 2 ago... no where close to messing with 7.

Why? Windows 7 is basically what Vista should have been, it's already more reliable for me in beta.

(and W7 is free atm)

maybe more reliable than vista was.

i havent had any reliability problems with vista, even with a pre SP-1 release of it.

No problem. *tips hat*

I don't know who I hate more, the people who bashed Vista relentlessly without just cause, or those who are now jumping on the W7 bandwagon because for some reason it's "cool".

No, I like W7 because I'm using the beta right now, and this is what Vista should have been.

How good does it work for gaming? I just ordered the parts from new egg for my rig thats in my sig. Should i install vista 64 or go to Windows 7 right off the bat?

If you don't mind reinstalling in Aug, go for the Windows 7 beta.

Professional, if I get it....I have no compelling reasons to upgrade from Vista right now, though.

Hmm, I'm considering giving it a shot. My only problem is that even if 7 was amazing I still wouldn't want to buy it in August because I still own Vista.

10.6 for me. I'll get Snow Leopard when it comes out. Also, if I get a new Macbook with NV graphics, I'll get W7 and set it up via Bootcamp. There's a good chance that I'll be doing that.

Run the beta 1 then upgrade to the RC which will extend the deadline and the when the RTM finally arrives you can upgrade to that if you get a free copy or a trial version or purchase an upgrade license.

I think most of us Linux users also use some version of Windows as well ...

I do prefer Linux over Windows for generic websurfing and media playback ... but Nothing beats Windows for running games ...

Also, since Win2K released several years ago ... Windows has become a stable enough platform for most users and the windows frustrations have gone down drastically since the old 9x on top of Dos versions.... Of course Linux has progressed a lot since the 90s as well .... so the point may not really be that valid ..

I'm pretty sure the Win7 beta is hardcoded to check the MS time server, so you can't just give a wrong time and hope to install it after the Aug deadline.

As for Win 7, whatever version I can get with my academic licence. Probably Pro I guess.

My computer runs off 2 squirrels chasing their nuts, I see no reason to switch unless cashews get involved.

Probably go with Professional if I'm getting a laptop (which won't happen for another year, minimum). Home premium if I was going to build a desktop to use in my home.

I'm still running XP Pro (currently SP3, started with SP2) on my laptop. Don't plan on ever upgrading the OS on this thing as the current one works fine.
