Ask her why she likes the recessed sink better. If its because the counter is flush with the top of the sink, simply mount the first sink lower.

While, I know some folks look at kitchens as just another room to decorate, I believe true beauty in a kitchen comes from functionality and utility.

For a sink, size comes before anything else. You can have a hand blown glass sink with gold covered fixtures and it's worthless if you can't get a roaster or stockpot into it to wash.

Anything you wipe in will still need to make its way over the lip.

Not if you mount it with the lip flush or lower than the counter.
