Thats because the chips aren't sold directly to us, the places we buy them from buy them directly from Intel and AMD, so even if we don't buy them, they were already sold..

Main rig is my OC'd XP, I really don't use my A64 rig for much it just sits there crunching. I also still run a K6-2/500.

It seems like everybody is using A64 these days, at least on these forums. No matter where you look, someone's got an A64. So, I'd like to see what processors people in here actually use, and how many still use something else besides A64?

I have at least 4 other rigs doing various things, my main (gaming) rig is an OC'd skt A. Seems to push my 6800GT just fine. When that gfx card can't cut it I'll switch to 64 bit & PCI-e. Just when depends on the release of future games.

yeaaah pentium III, me and 2 other people still use em:thumbsup:! 800 Mhz, 128 ram!
Saving up for a new A64 rig though, but it will be a while 😀

Heh, I remember like 5 years ago (?) a 1 ghz p3 seemed more than anybody would need for a long time. Nowadays, it barely meets the minimum requirement of modern games, IF it's lucky. Hard to believe, but 5 years from now we'll probaby be running cpus with 8 cores, each at like 5+ ghz. The current fx55 would probably not even be enough to play HL3 (or duke nukem forever, if it comes out by that time 😛)

I am perfectly happy with my 2.0ghz Northwood core, overclocked to 2.65...533mhz FSB, 1gig of pc3200 that is underclocked because of my FSB (even with overclock lol), a radeon 9600 pro...

It's no wonder my e-penis is only like 1inch long hahaha, I have nothing worth bragging about (though I am happy that I got my northwood to 2.72ghz stable 😀)

old school style.

K7, barton core, 2500.

its fine for me, i run linux and don't play games. i'll let it run a few more years and upgrade it to some 128 core, 10THz, AMD K43.

P4 660 3.6Ghz - game rig, will upgrade to P4 670 if/when available
PII 350Mhz - browser
PII Celeron 500Mhz - office rig

I've got my eye on ATi right now for my next mobo chipset, whether it be AMD or Intel.....only time will tell. I wanted to build an a64 rig to start with, but I refuse to spend a dime on Nvidia.

****Pentium M**** 2.0Ghz Dothan running at stock speed, moderately undervolted.

-and have no plans to move to AMD!!

*Ralf quickly dones his flame suit and hides in the bathtub*

Main rig: A64 Winny 3200+
girlfriends gaming rig/mp3 filesharing rig: A64 Winny 3000+ (does 2.7 no sweat)
Laptop: A64 Newcastle 3200+

I tried intel a few times but I felt dirty.
Using AMD since K6 2-300 w/ 3d now. Quake2 ownage!
best gaming chips evah!

Flatbastard, you must be canadian. Cheers!

Do all Canadians dislike nvidia products? I wouldn't know because I'm an American with full blooded rights, hailing from Northern California, and I don't let my country of origin influence my computer component purchase decisions. 🙂
