now that they use the same core parts, the only difference is probably exterior design and fit. i personally think MS ones are WAAAAAY to HUMONGOUS for precise movement, thus i prefer logitechs...

Intellimouse with Intellieye - I don't know if MS still makes this one, I can't find it on their website!

MS Explorer. I used to say Boomslang, but I myself have gone optical. :( The boomslang needs too much maintainence. It got to the point every few maps I'd have to clean it.

When i first got the optical mouse I noticed I could rifle much better. I was playin on Orca face server and would get godlikes, have a 20 ping there. I could rifle people out of the air when they would try to tp across. I started to kick ass on pubs but then i noticed i was sucking in matches. I was like one of the best coret players (i still think i am) and with my optical we played a clan we shoulda owned and i sucked hard. I kept tping into a wall and my rockets wheren't going where i wanted them to. I couldn't spin around and hit stuff anymore. THe next day i was messing around and noticed that when i moved the mouse too fast, it wasn't tracking. If i moved it too fast it would start to move slower. I tried different surfaces but whenever i tried to do a 180 really fast it wouldn't track it perfect. I'd turn 3/4 of the way or what ever but i expected to turn 180 and thats why my rockets were off. SO i got all pissed and tried to go back to the boomslang. I gave that idea up and kept messing with the explorer. How i solved it was to turn the sensitivity up so that i didn't have to move the mouse as far to do a 180, and then not move it as fast. I could do a 180 in teh same time and all was good. Turning the sensitivty up hurt my rifle but i've gotten used to it. Now i used strafing and dodge to aim more than the mouse and it works pretty well.

SO anyways MS Explorer is the sh*t for gaming and everything. with a surface1030 using the roughside.

I wont vote until you put Razor Boomslang as an option. ;)
I use to use a microsoft intelli eye and had nothing but problems with it when gaming. I no longer use my logitech optical at work because it started to fail after just 2 months.

My roommate and best friend (2 people) both have intellimouse explorers and I don't really like the mushy feel to the buttons.

Logitech has a much more solid feeling click to me and I like that.

I also favour a smallish mouse, I find that small mice put less strain on the wrists after long hours of gaming (diablo2 especially) and the small mice are easier to move quickly for those quick frags.

I'd be interested to try out Microsofts basic one, the IntelliMouse with IntelliEye I think it was called. Just a basic 2button+wheel all white mouse.

I have an old MouseManWheel (non-optical), and while I liked it, I find it's shape hard on the wrist after 6 hours of Diablo2 ;)...nor the MS Explorer...the MS Optical (white&grey) isn't bad..but again I don't like the mushy feel of the buttons there either (I tried that one in a store).

It's Logitech Wheel Mouse optical for me. The nice small 2btn+wheel, blue and silver (I think that's a slick clouring, I just wish it had the blue LED like it's big bro).

But like you said, it's really a matter of personal opinion.

I have used both optical mice from microsoft and logitech. The one from Microsoft seems cheap, like a toy for kids, the thumb buttons are also on totaly the wrong place, very anoying. Logitech on the other hand did something right, so right that I have the optical one at home and at work.
I used to have the ball version of mouseman, had it for 3 years untill the left button started to act weird.
Two friends of mine now have mouseman mice from logitech, one has the newer version of the ball one and the other has both the ifeel and the ball version.
Dont get the ifeel, its crap, the vibration effect that is, the mouse itself is great.

I went from the boomslang 2k to the MS Intellimouse explorer just like Beck2k.
Although I'm more of a CS player than a Q3 or UT player. I have small hands so I never really got used to the boomslang (I used to hold it really weird so I could get to the scroll bar). I used it for 6 months and it definitely improved my game because of the sensitivity...but the awkwardness was so unbearable that I kept my logitech mouseman+ for RTS games and regular Windows use. I couldn't use the boomslang for more than an hour at a time without my hand cramping up.

The intellimouse is much more contoured for me and I haven't lost any accuracy since switching to it. I'd say its just as accurate as the boomslang 2k. I have the newer version (with 33% more accurate technology) so I haven't seen any of these tracking problems that people describe. Make sure to get a new mousepad too...either the fUnC 1030 surface or an Everglide (what I use). It'll provide enough friction to keep your movements tight and accurate.

Good luck

btw, i have the 33% faster one too and if you move it fast enough it won't track. It'll move but not at the speed you move the mouse.

I'm sorry to have to say this but, I disagree with all those who voted for Optical Mice. For gaming, i personally prefer the ball mouse. why? think about it: how often does your mouse go off the mousepad when you're in an intense game of quake? A LOT! now, when your mouse goes off the pad, the ball still has momentum. Thus you keep moving. However, when your optical mouse goes off the pad, you stop completely.

I say this from experience.
Best mouse for gaming? Logitech Mouseman Wheel (the ball version. i don't think they make it anymore, but u cant still find it)

i use the first mouse.

also, get an everglide/ratpad and you're all set.

my 2 cents
