Is AN 94 the one that fires two shots before the recoil reaches the shooter?
I don't think the Russian military has deployed it.

yes thats the one. It is deployed by Russian special forces/other elite troops.
edit: because they can't afford to re-equip everyone with one.

I believe the US is starting to use the Xm08 rifle now, better than the M16.

they've got that deployed to units? haven't seen a picture of a soldier in Iraq using one. I thought they were still testing it?

Ya know, in the last couple wars, Kosovo and ongoing iraqi war, missiles and smart bombs kills more than rifles do. I envision that in the future, there would be no soldiers and rifiles in the battle fields, there would be like a 100 people sitting in front of computers in an underground compund, controlling 100000 flying missiles to hit targets on the computer screens. Just like video games.

You'll always need the infantry to take and hold ground.

I find it hard to pick the M4 even being a member of the U.S. armed forces. When the usarmy is moving to the XM8 which is very similiar to the G36 and manufactured by H&K- that has to say something about the G36....the M4's are too finicky when they're dirty. That's ok because most of the peole in these forums picked weapons based on what's the most fun in counterstrike 🙂....
I personally own a Colt 6920 LE Carbine which is basically an M4 with a slightly longer barrel and no burst and a Steyr A2 Aug (one of 100 x-ferrable in country), the Aug is very overrated for a modern rifle but was kinda a pioneer for composite based weapons.

What's that one that has a grenade launcher and is able to detonate the grenade in mid air to weed out charlie from his foxhole?

Looks like an M16A4...appears to have a detachable carry handle, along with a Knights M5 RAS forend with a vertical grip...

My hats off to your son, best wishes to him and a safe and speedy return to the states...

Either an A3 or an A4, impossible to tell without seeing it in action. 😉

I may be wrong, but I thought the A3 was a 3 rd. burst while the A4 was full auto, and that the Marines never adopted the M16 with 3rd. burst, seeing no use for it. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

You're backwards. The A3 is full-auto, the A4 is 3rd-burst. 🙂

I prefer the M4A1 and the Steyer Aug
Who wouldn't? The only people that would like an AUG are one's that have never fired one. Sure, they look kind of neat, but thats about it.

My choices:

Old skool -
Czech VZ58

So good that when the Soviets were pushing AKs into their satellite nations the Czechs were able to keep these. Very overlooked and fantastic pieces.

Newer -

Canadian made Diameco C7s and C8s. Fantastic quality rifle. Expensive, but damn good.

Really new:

HK is tough to beat.
