POLL: Which HDD do you prefer?

All other things equal, IBM. However, all other things are rarely equal, so I get whichever is cheaper, or faster, etc. I've owned HDDs from almost every manufacturer you can name and never had any failed on me so I guess I'm not that paranoid when it comes to stability.

I choose Seagate for SCSI.

IBM for IDE, with WD right behind.

I've got no opinion about Quantum. Don't like 'em but don't hate 'em either. The Atlas 10K2 has me scratching my head. Are they going to make them or not? Will I be alive to see it?

Maxtor, BLECH! Maybe for my grandma's computer. Realiable and slow. That is unless you can decifer their secret code of model numbers in which case you might be able to get one of the two fast drives they make.

Fujitsu? Who's that? What do they make again? Kitchen knives?

I have Two Computers, Have Two Maxtor in one and a Maxtor an Samsung in the other. But this is how I rate them.

IBM
Maxtor
Samsung
Fujitus
WD
Seagate

I prefer Maxtor drives, always have, always will

I think ill have to start my own poll soon 🙂

Only 3 drives I had are Maxtor, Western Digital, IBM.

I've had a Maxtor 5 gigger that I used for 3 years... NEVER gave me problems.

Western Digital... they're okay I guess, they need to keep up with the speed of competitors.

IBM is by far my favorite now. I know alot of these drives get hot but with the right controller, even that's fixed and the 75GXP series in particular are one fast puppies.

IBM is my favorite.
Maxtor comes next.

Seagate has been in every machine I have built or bought. I'm no Seagate freek, I just tend to stick with what works.

IBM is #1 in my book. I've also had great success with Western Digital and I'm impressed with reviews I've read in the last 6 months re: Maxtor. I have learned, on the other hand, to avoid Seagates. Again, just personal experience (with at least 6 of their drives in various sizes) but I won't use a Seagate drive.

In descending order:

Maxtor
IBM
Quantum
WD
Fujitsu
Seagate
Samsung

When I worked in a Computer Retailer, our RMA rate for Samsungs was 25%. Fujitsu drives rate above Seagate for being around the same speed (at 5,400rpm, anyway.) and more reliable. I'm not sure if it's improved since they brought out the "Rubber Chicken" models, though.
