what is FLAC?

btw iPod design is just the best by far IMO, but it's overpriced. I wish Dell or Creative would make something thad had a UI as nice as the iPod.

its lossless compression (you don't lose audio quality)... i usually get files to 50-70% of what the wavs were.

i've really been leaning towards the DJ or the Zen.

FLAC is awesome. LOSSLESS is awesome. but for a hdd based audio player that might not have a great audio decoder, i see no point.

I swear I'm going to smack the next person that links to that site.:p Once again for the ill-informed, what's on that site is incorrect; the battery is covered by the Applecare warantee, which can be extended from 1 to 2 years for $60, and Apple will do an out of warantee iPod for $100. Additionally, 3rd parties will sell you the battery and the toolkit for $50, or they'll do it for you for $60; this all for a battery based on a technology that will wear out over 18 months of very heavy use, no matter what the product.

Gotta love the uninformed spreading FUD. I've had my iPod since June (got it in the MacWarehouse clearance deal) and love it. If you wear out the battery in 18 months that means you've roughly cycled it every single day (that's 8-10 hours of straight use a day - I'm sure you're all doing that

).

ipod - there's a reason it's the #1 mp3 player. it's even on anand's wish list. "The best MP3 player by far." i was against all forms of HD based mp3 players, but i couldn't pass up a 20gb mp3 player when it was offered as a gift :D. i don't go a day w/o my ipod.

I just got the 10 gig model from an apple store three days ago for $270 (student discount). Like others are saying, there is a very good reason its so fvckin expensive. Do yourself a favor and get one.

And I suppose the audio chip on the Karma is good enough for you to hear the difference? Not to mention your headphones...

seems like a gimmick to me. Nice to have on your home stereo system but on your walkman/mp3 player? nah, I'll go for mp3 @ 1:10
