PS2 plays DVDs, Xbox can with a $30 add on. What kind of games do you want to play?

With GTA now being on X-Box I see little reason to get a PS2. It's hard to compare the X-Box and Gamecube because the Cube is 50 dollars cheaper and has completely different games.

Don't really know. Havn't had a gaming console since the Nintendo, and that was a while ago.

I dont like FPS games on consoles, so mainly racing/adventure/puzzle games. My wife wants that Wallace and Grommet game :p

We don't have a DVD player yet, but I plan on getting a DVD burner and I have tv out on my computer, and the computer is near the TV.

I say go camecube, And if you dont have a DVD player you can get an apex brand one pretty cheap $30 bucks, and they are great dvd players.

Gamecube has great games, and graphics, plus its dirt cheap compared to the others. Plus you can get many games for it cheap. Also if you dont mind buying pre-owned you can get alot of good games at EB for 7-10 bucks.

Gran Tourismo 3 is only on the PS2, end of debate! :)

GC is a great buy. Lots of games, plays well, ATI graphics. X-box and PS2 are awesome consoles, but not worth the extra $$ if you have a decent PC and a DVD player. (Of course IMHO...)

My vote goes to Gamecube, great exclusive games. Everything on the Xbox can be had on the PC. If you're really into modding though, Xbox is the way to go. I was actually considering buying an Xbox, but not for any of the games, just for the modding/emu possibilities.

Save your money. I'd stick with your pc for gaming, especially if you like fps games. If I were to suggest a system, it would be some nes, snes, dreamcast off of ebay. those were pretty good systems even though they arent making games for them anymore. PS2 would be the best out of all of them, but not by enough for me to justify not voting the "save your money" option.

(For reference, I own both a PS2 and an Xbox... And I recently sold my Gamecube. I say this just to show that I'm not some sort of fanboy, and have fully experienced all three consoles.)

As a matter of fact, the Xbox is by far my favorite console, but I'm going to recommend the PS2.

Sony's PS2 has the broadest range of titles. (By contrast, the Gamecube has the narrowest.) With the PS2, it would not be difficult at all to find a game for each member of your family.

Also, it has a DVD player, which would be so much more convenient than using your PC... Probably higher quality, too.

That's great if you are in love with Mario and Zelda. If not, then you're SOL.

Because in the category of "racing/adventure/puzzle" games, he wouldn't have any options like F-Zero GX, Pikmin, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Skies of Arcadia Legends, or Viewtiful Joe.

I don't disagree with your recommendation for the PS2 based on his preferences, but to say that Gamecube is just Mario and Zelda is like saying that XBox is just Halo and Splinter Cell.
