Owning all 3 consoles...

I like the Xbox the best. To me, aside from RPGS (Fable is coming out soon though), it has the best selection of games, and features. Graphics are MUCH better than PS2 (Gamecube is a close 2nd to Xbox), Online play is the best.

GCN is a niche console, it has a few good games that has such high quality, its just not available on other consoles, but game selection is very very limited.

PS2 on the other hand, is the best RPG Console out, thats about all it has going for it IMO. Xbox also has Fable coming out soon, so I hope thats good.

I perfer the racing games on Xbox (PGR2 for now... Forza soon), Shooters on Xbox (Halo, soon Halo2, RS3, Riddick, etc), and fighting games for Xbox (DOA3, DOA Ultimate/whatever is soon).

I would have said PS2 for Gran Turismo (entire series), but the new GT doesn't look like its going to be out before I die. Forza for Xbox looks like a good replacement.

I own neither, but all my friends started out with PS2 and now have Xboxes and say how Xbox is so much better. particularly how the games are much more fun.

however, if your annoyed with upgrading, I may go PS2. Xbox2 will not be backward compatible so all those good games are useless if you upgrade to Xbox2. No word on PS3 yet, but PS2 is backward compatible with PS1 so there is hope.

Gamecube has a lot of good sellers that are exclusive to the Gamecube only. Many of the good PS2 and Xbox games are available or will be available for the computer.
