So if you had a choice which schedule would you prefer?
What schedule do you currently have?
What kind of work do you do?
Do you think in the future most jobs will give people a greater choice in work schedules?

Where is 6 days a week for 12 hours a day?

Well, im only scheduled for 8 hours a day, but overtime is quite common.

I work in a Iron Foundry, i hate the job.

i think it would be dope to try out 3x13 and have it from tues-thurs. it would probably be ridiculously awesome.

I used to work 4x10 every summer when I worked for my university. Mon-Thurs, 7-5. I like having that kind of schedule :)

Right now I got squat (got laid off and haven't started again - yet). Gimme a few weeks and I'll let you know what kind of schedule I have.

currently i work the 4 days x 8-14 hrs per day...with overtime being paid time +1/2. i enjoy the 3 days off but it can be quite tiring.

It would be great to do 3x13, because I would have more time with my GF or do something else. My GF is an RN and she does 3x12 & 4x12 every 2 weeks.

I've owrked 5-10's or more for most of my life. I've worked a few pipeline jobs where the hands didn't even call it overtime till they worked more than 12 hrs per day, even though they got OT after 8. To them, overtime was anything more than their normal workday...

Personally, 3-13's wouldn't be bad...Under Kahleeforneeya law, after 8 is x1.5, and after 12 is x2...so that would be 24 hrs straight time, 12 hrs of 1-1/2, and 3 hrs of double...for an equivalent total of 48 hrs pay...

Three days a week would be wonderful. Right now I don't have a full-time job, I'm a student and have a part-time job.

Hell, sign me up for 3x14 so I get 2 more hours than 40 instead of 1 less than 40. Factor in these additional factors

1) Probably get lunch+dinner on the clock (I had a crappy retail job that required you to clock out, but all of my other jobs have been on the clock for all meals)

2) Late evening work = most people are probably gone, so you're more able to neff at work without getting caught

3) 5 day weekend, there are no crowds anywhere on weekday afternoons

4) Less commute time, saving gas money and time

It's a matter of YOUR efficiency. Time savings add up when you factor in commuting time and time required to wind down from work (I need an hour of two of sitting around doing nothing before I can do anything after a 10-hour shift). Many people have an hour commute to and from work, some have even more than that. Let's say you use 2 hours travelling to and from work every day. Let's also say that you need an hour a day to wind down from a long day of work. That's 3 hours per day that are essentially wasted. On the shortest work week, you're saving 6 hours per week. You can get a lot of stuff done in 6 hours that you can't get done sitting in rush hour traffic or watching the boob tube.

I currently work 5 x 8 on the 11pm-7am shift. It's cool when I'm not dead tired and sleeping the entire day away. Lately, I've just been getting home and going to sleep at about noon and sleeping until 10pm, so it blows right now. I'm thinking about switching to 3 x 12 because I would have no less than 2-3 days off between work days and I would work no more than 6-7 days in a two week period.

My 5 day 8 hour schedule doesn't really let me fit much else into my schedule. I'd rather have a 4 day 10 hour day, since 3 days off would be preferable to me, during summer break.

My company has a few different shifts:

5x8 (Mon-Fri, 3 different shifts)
4x10( Mon-Thurs, 2 shifts.)
3x12 (Fri-Sun, paid for 40hr, must work one Monday every month or so, 2 shifts)

I'd love the 3x12, but it's only for people out on the floor. They cannot get people to fill it, either.

I would much prefer the 3 x 13 myself.
Second choice would be 4 x 10, used to do that a lot when travelling out of town on projects, but we would typically try to do 3 x12 and then 4 hrs. on Thursday.
Matter of fact, I am currently pulling down 12+ hrs. day and 6-8 on Saturdays.
(Of course, I'm salaried, but I am very well salaried!)

40 hours straight FTW...

but really, I am a grad student expected to work 40 hours in the summer, but I can work whenever I feel like it. Some days i'll work 10 hours, other days i'll just not come in. I dont think I could handle working 13 hours in front of a computer screen. If it were landscaping or something, I could deal with it.

I'm on the 9/80 right now - I work 9 hours a day every day of the week, except fridays. I get every other friday off, and the ones I work I only do 8 hours. It's nice having those long weekends thrown in there.

i work for a moving/relocation company - 5 days a week/8hrs a day (9 if i skip lunch)

i'd LOVE to have a 4 day work week at 10 hrs a day. The extra hour or 2 doesn't sound so bad if i get one less day of work and 1 more day of weekend. Working 3 days at 13hrs each sounds too brutal to me. Ehh..i'd actually just be happy working a bit later..like..9 or 10..and ending later like 6 or 7. 8-5 really sucks...waking up early = grrr; leaving during heaviest of rush hour traffic = grr x 10. :(
