Adolf Hitler was mixed on social issues (nationalism on the right, pro-abortion and pro-science/evolution on the left) and he was an economic leftist. Obama is an economic fascist (corporatist/socialist) and social fascist (war hawk), so I'd say the U.S. is already there.
Fascism is also not far right on the nolan chart.
That's because you're applying an economic scale to a social issue.
i.e.: Communism on one side and unfettered free market capitalism on the other. National Socialism as practiced in Germany in the 30's and 40's is a little bit to the right of center on that scale.
A better measure would be anarchy on one side, and totalitarian/authoritarian
on the other. Hitler, Joe Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pinochet, Pol Pot are all waaaaaay over on the Authoritarian side of that scale - irrespective of their economic ideals.
This is basic stuff, guys.
