Memory for what? Texts? I don;t save many anyhow. And I don't take a lot of pics, either.

Menu loading? Like when using the phone in day to day tasks? Or just when setting it up and changing settings?

I just need a good small basic phone that works well. All I do is calls, texts and the occational picture.

Of this list of phones that are free to me, which would you choose?

Samsung SCH-u620

Motorola MOTOKRZR K1m

Samsung SCH-u540

Motorola W385

Verizon Wireless G'zOne Type-V

Samsung SCH-a870

LG VX8300

LG VX5300

Samsung SCH-u340

Samsung SCH-u740

Whichever one you can woo the salesgirl into giving you the best features and the best deal on. ;)

memory as in RAM, not storage. my complaint was a single statement about day to day use of the phone. i.e. when navigating to different menu options, there is a slight, but noticeable delay in how fast the screen changes.

don't take this the wrong way, it's barely a complaint, but like i said it is noticeable. again, overall it's a great phone.

LG vx8300 no question hands down

I have one now and have always had LG phones, lots of features, and works well. And, I have dropped it numerous times and had it in the ocean...still works.

Before that I had my LG vx8100 for 2 and a half years and the headphone jack finally quit. Before that it was the lgvx6600 or something which I beat up so hard and still worked. Pool, +10 feet of water, rugged.

why are people saying LG has bad quality...that's BS, go over to howard forums, they are very durable..

That and people are only voting for the RZR because it is the cool thing to own even though they are crap...just wait for your keypad to brake.

I had no idea the other forum existed. Kinda silly. You know it gets very little traffic and would not be the best place to ask a question like that that needs a lot of input from ordinary users, not just phone geeks.

Do you honestly think I'd get the amount of traffic and opinions there that I'd get here?

I agree completely ... there are too many forums now & I see many threads asking for information in them with no replies at all even after a couple days.

And on-topic, if good reception is the most important thing then you should go with the KRZR or the VX8300 ... if you like to send text messages though, be aware that the KRZR is a very slow to respond phone so the VX8300 would be a better choice. Both have music controls located on the front of the phone & memory card slots to add storage if you choose to do so.

I actually lost me E815 at Six Flags about a month ago & just went through this ... first I cut loose for a Motorola RAZR Maxx VE which is a the current top-of-the line Moto & while it was a decent phone, I send a lot of text messages & the input lag (although not as bad as the KRZR) drove me up the wall, so I ended up returning it.

I then received my insurance replacement which was a VX8300 because Assurion is out of new E815's & tried it for a couple weeks ... I was actually all set to keep it as my primary phone, but then Verizon dropped the price on the VX9900 enV by $50 & I could get it for free with my "new every 2" so I jumped on it & I have to say its by far the nicest phone I've ever owned. Reception is on par with the VX8300, sound quality is very good both from the ear-piece & the speaker phone plus texting with the qwerty keyboard rocks, the only negative is that its slightly larger then the VX8300 but still fits easily in a pants pocket.

Take a look here for more info about the VX9900:

Howard forums LG VX9900 Threads of interest

For the VX8300 you'll have to read through this thread, but theres a lot there:

Howard forums Verizon/LG thread

Edit: In case I wasn't clear, out of the OP's choices I'd go for the VX8300 easily with the KRZR as a distant second... really the only advantage the Moto has is it looks fancier.

LG is usually good, loved my first LCD monitor from them. However, just have to look at a few Chocolates along with a few other 'flashy' ones. Maybe it's just an isolated problem with the model, but it sure does bring their quality into question (didn't say it was bad, just something you should look closely at).

I 'almost' got a RAZR cause it was the only phone other than the Nokia 6275i (love it now) that wasn't too simple/poor quality from Virgin Mobile. Took about 10 minutes of reviews to see the problems people had down the road had after their initial 5 star reaction. If you want to follow the RAZR/KRZR band, suit yourself.

Funny you should pose this question as I'm in a similar situation and have been researching which Verizon phone to get next.

I went to my local store and played with all of them in depth with the thinking that I'd go with the LG VX8700 but after spending some time playing with the Samsung SCH-u740, I realized that it's a great phone if you do a decent amount of text messages (which my wife and I do). I did a bunch of research and from what reviews I can find, it seems that the Samsung SCH-u740 is actually a pretty highly rated phone and is even higher rated than the LG VX8700 that I was set on.

If you're not to sure, I'd suggest going to the store and playing with the working models of each you're interest in first as it makes a big difference to feel the phones in your hands.

Also it depends on what you're looking for out of a phone. For me, I want a phone thats razr thin but not a Razr (had one before, to slow) and since I do texting a bit it's nice to have a qwerty keyboard also. I personally don't give a crap about music, video or camera functions.

EDIT: I also ride a motorcycle so a thing phone is important to me also, the Samsung SCH-u740 seems to be the best fit, at least for my needs/wants.

The only problem with this particular Samsung are that a lot of people break the dual-action hinge & supposedly it doesn't have great battery life ... reception is very good & it also has a QWERTY keyboard, although its a lot smaller then the enV's.

If size is a major concern its certainly worth consideration & I also strongly suggest a trip to the store to check out your final choices in person.

The hinge was my first concern when I was looking into it, but from all the reviews I've seen, most everyone seems to confirm that it's not an issue and that the build quality is very good. Of course I don't (yet) own this phone so I can't say for sure.
