I think I'd like to move and I feel that these are places I would be interested in going.

Anyone want to give me some pros and cons? I think I might be more interested in Montreal at the moment.

Ottawa's alright. Leaving Winnipeg huh? Also consider Barrie or Alberta somewhere. Barrie's growing big-time right now. Could always move to Brandon too.:p

EDIT: Whatever happened with that thing with your sis?

You don't need to know French to live in Montreal, but you'll pick it up after a few years of living there. Nice perk in that, great nightlife, but a not so sterling economy - at least in technology.

What? why not Toronto. or Mississauga. I lived in Mississauga for the past 10 years of my life (im 18 now) till before i moved to university 3 months ago... i loved the city. its a nice clean place, everyones pretty nice, there arent any areas where you've gotta watch your back and you can walk alone at 3-4 am and not worry about a thing

Ottawa if you're into the tech industry ... Montreal if you're into night life.

I'll put another plug in for Alberta though.

Heck I might aswell put it a plug for Bridgewater N.S. then, if your in the tech industry you could always go work at the local computer store, but night life leaves alittle to be desired unless you enjoy fire-hall dances.

Montreal is awesome, and no you don't need to know french but if you do it opens up even more of the city!

I don't speak french, but my GF speaks both french and english. I would love to learn french.

I think the main reason I want to leave Winnipeg is that I'm just getting tired of the cold. That means that the praries are out of the question. I don't have any real interest in Calgary. Toronto and Vancouver don't really interest me. They seem too large and busy.

I'm looking for something that seems to be more quiet and laid back, but still not totally removed from technology, etc. I certainly won't be any worse off in Montreal than in Winnipeg I would hope.

I want a nice place to raise a family.

Edit:

And I love to party :p

The french you learned in hs so far (as I'm sure you have) plus reading the french labels has already given you a good start. I've been to Montreal and there are a few shops where the proprieters speak french to you even when they know english and you respond in english for whatever reason, but if you at least try, they're pretty good about it.

It's funny too, cause when you go into a restaurant your waiter will come up to you and say "Bonjour hello." Whichever you respond with will dictate what language they use for your visit. It's funny to go in there as a couple and when the waiter greets you to say hello while your friend says bonjour. The waiter will just sorta stare at you :)

But yeah, Ottawa isn't too much different as it's right on the Quebec border. So the drinking age isn't really any different cause you can just hop the river into Hull.

My vote would be Montreal, but my real vote would be Vancouver :D

Ah, if that's the case, then I'd vote either Ottawa or Victoria. Montreal's bigger than Vancouver. We're not so busy out here really... it's pretty laid back, but if Vancouver doesn't interest you, I think Victoria will. It's smaller, quieter, the mildest city in Canada weatherwise, yet large enough that you can get most things... and Vancouver is a ferry ride away. Ottawa is apparently nice as well, probably similar to Victoria, just colder.

Victoria will get you out of the cold and the noise!

I'm in Ottawa right now... can't wait to move back to southern Ontario :p (K/W)
