Its kind of a toss up for me right now, anyone involved in either of these programs.

Georgia Tech (ISyE dept.): Huge dept (200+ grad students), ranked no. 1.

Berkeley (IEOR dept.): Very good as well but smaller department (60-70 grad students), less formal/structured. School is more famous overall.

Berkeley. Don't go to a redneck school like Ga. Tech. *shudders* at the thought of going to a school in the South or even living there. Trust me dude, unless you want to live in a trailer and have people laugh at your diploma you better go to Berkeley.

Hehe I visited both and Atlanta itself is a pretty nice place, you have to drive a few hours to see "the south". It certainly isnt as good as the bay area though.

You obviously haven't been out of downtown yet. Once you get out of downtown it is nothing but cows and trailers.

You do realize that GT is in the middle of Atlanta, right? I know Birmingham sucks (hard), but Atlanta is a great city as long as you ignore politics (like most Tech students...)

<-- GT undergrad

<---- trolling by being an elitist prick(I'm hardly serious about what I've said). I've lived in Atlanta before, and Birmingham really isn't that bad if you are in the 'burbs. But yeah, GT is a great school.

GA Tech. I know a couple of guys (Ph.D. students) in the department who are very cool. I almost went there, in fact.

Edit: I suck at typing

From what I understand, ISYE has allarge number of Turkish Grad students... it's sort of a mystery why. (BTW--I'm a PhD student in the architecture department at Tech). If you come here, and go to their parties, remember that the food is excellent, but the Turkish natual liquor is not tasty.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about Tech or Atlanta in general... at the moment my brain's tired from 9 hours of class.

I do have some good options at both. Georgia has the advantage here because there are so many more choices. If I cant find a good advisor there, I wont be able to find one anywhere.
