If you have only used one OS, pick the appropriate selection. Having Loaded linux on your machine for 2 days DOESNT COUNT. NEITHER DOES USING A MAC AT COMPUSA...

... If you work with more than one OS on daily basis, pick what you prefer. Otherwise PICK I ONLY USE ONE OS

Im trying to keep the bias from the poll. Most of the people that frequent this forum wouldnt know how to add their account to an unlocked UNIX BOX.

Alright I always wondered what os people prefer.
Keep in mind that if you only have experience in one OS (chances are windows), you aren't really qualified to vote because you have no experience basis to make such decision. Oh yeah playing with macs at compusa / Lindows in wallmart doesnt qualify as experience...

EDIT:
Feel free to post your reason why ... especially if you pick windows. Everyone i know thats fluent in UNIX wouldnt pick Widnows as their first choice... how come Windows is winning here?

Everyone is going to say they have multiple OS experience cause they had a half-working linux install for 1 day before they went back to windows, or they used thier brother's friend's moms 233mhz iMac once.

The same could be said for just about any OS as long as you know how to configure it properly.

It allows everyone to answer the poll. It's not like he can actually keep people with experience with only 1 OS out of the thread.

winxp or win2003. Gentoo is fun to tinker around with; so is Debian/Knoppix. And most other linux distros for that matter

Then it should be:

"Damn you and your multiple OS experience only! You can't stop me from voting! MUA HA HA HA HA HA"

Or something....

this poll is messed up b/c I've used win NT/95/98/ME/2000/XP which are all diff't operating systems, but there is only a "windows" option which is far too vague. Perhaps, you should say what is your favorite "platform"

Work/Experienced not a guru

Windows 3.11, NT 4.0, 9.X, ME, 2k, XP pro
older verisons of Solaris, HP Unix,
Red Hat 6.X, older verisons of FreeBSD
MAC 8.1 to 9.X

Windows, cause it works for me.

Windows is pretty much the same across the board. From used stand point of view it lets you do the same stuff. The difference is what runs in the background (16 vs 32 bit kernel).

I don't care what OS I use as long as the majority of people use it so that all the software and hardware works right out of the box.

I use Windows and Unix frequently at work and occasionally some Mac OS. A roommate of mine ran all Linux boxes. So yes I have lots of experience with it. Yet I still voted Windows. Why? With the Unix boxes all I see is incompatable software - and hardware that we have to wait 6 months to get a driver written (and usually the driver is buggy). Yes the Linux boxes are ~5% faster than an equivalent Windows box. But I'm not giving up all that for 5% speed boost.

If everyone switched to another OS, I'd switch right along with them (but after waiting for the software and hardware to catch up). Then of course the bugs and viruses will become prevalent in the next OS, so we are back to the beginning...

Agreed, the two need to be seperated. Win2k/XP>Win9x.
