And how would you recommend raising it? When I got mine 2 years ago (age 18), I think the limit was $500 or so. It's at $5,400 right now, but hasn't increased in awhile...

I got my first credit card when I was 18. I'm 21 now, and my AmEx card had a $9,000 Limit. My Discover Card has a $3,000 limit, and my Mastercard has like a $1,000 limit.

Got a credit card about 3-4 months ago, got a limit of $5500. Reason I got it so high is because I got the card through the alumni association of the college i graduated from. I'm 23 now, graduated last august.

12,400 on mastercard. NO do not up the limit. You should lower the limit and get a lower rate. $1000 is fine unless you frequent the Hot deals forum:D Debt sux

If you want to have a higher limit try to not pay the balance in full every month. They don't want to give you more if you're not making them any money.

If you want to get your limit increased, you pretty much have to carry a balance every month.....the general rule is to carry a balance that is less than 50% of your limit though.....

I have a 7 million dollar warehousing line of credit.(for business purposes) but since I am incorporated , looting the company and heading for uruguay(favorable extradition treaties for white collar crime) has crossed my mind.

My personal credit limit is *****redacted(IRS may be watching) , the wife pays the bills so as to hide what she buys from me, so only she really knows.

It seems kind of petty to respond to this thread but like they say in uruguay, "beloved patriot with money is our god"

Credit card limit doesn't really mean much other than the fact that you can get that much more in debt. Let's talk liquid assets instead, shall we? :)

Personally, I have more than enough credit and get annoyed that I keep getting offers for more... I had two Platinum Mastercards until last December, but I canceled one because I never use it. When I called them up the guy thought I was nuts for wanting to cancel. Never mind that my credit line was 1/3 of what I make in an entire year! :disgust: I have no desire to be that deep in debt, thank you. What's the point of carrying a balance on your card just so you can get a higher limit? I only spend what I can afford to pay off each month, and I feel much better that way...

The only item worth paying off each month rather than paying cash for would be a house, because at least you're building equity in something! :D

The best way to use credit cards is just for convenience. Pay off the balance every month because the interest rates will really kill you. You'll also establish a sterling credit history this way, which is good when you want to get a car or home loan.

Maybe we shouldn't go around advertising our credit limits so openly. You never know who might be reading this. God forbid one of us gives out too much personal information and becomes a victim of fraud. If I were a criminal I would target the people with really high credit limits.
