Whenever people talk about losing or gaining weight, they always point out how they don't watch what they eat and aren't fat. Inferring that if everyone followed their food intake and exercise regimine they would have the same results.

That is just so untrue. If I were to eat like most of my friends, I would be well over 200 lbs. I know this because I was. And even then, I still ate significantly less and ate "healthier" low-fat foods.
Were you exercising then like you are now?

fact of the matter is that everyone is different. What works for Geekbabe and Red Dawn (just an example) would not work for me.

Why not? When I injured my back I gained 35 lbs. When I was well enough to start exercising again I lowered my caloric intake and exercised my ass off until I lost it. Keep in mind that I am 49 (48 at the time) so my metabolism isn't what it was when I was your age. Since I lost that weight I have continued to exercise and eat healthy watching what I eat (only eating the bad stuff occasionally) and have gotten into better shape.

Of course if Atkins works for you then more power to you. But I am willing to bet that once you reach your goal and you continue to exercise you can go off the Atkins diet you will continue to get more fit. Exercise and a healthy diet is the key. You can even have a piece of cake, bread or "Shock" a plate of pasta!

Wow! How did you gain 35 lbs? You must have been really pigging out!
Eating a lot of fast food, laying flat on my back for 3 months, not exercising at all for 5 months and being on Vicodin. Vikes are the Debbil. I will never take them again, in fact when I stopped taking them and started using Alleve my physical and emotional health improved dramatically.

Spoken like someone who has no clue. If you hurt your back, do you think he could excercize? Do you think he could do his job? (I think he was a contractor IIRC). Which is a pretty physicly demanding job. Continuing eating the same way he did when hurt (which is what your body wants to do) could easily net you 35 lbs. That is only 70k calories.

Oh. I gained 25 lbs but it was over 13 years. Marriage, lack of excercise, a sedentary job, and glutony was my downfall.

Maybe he's a 300 pounder which would only be about a 12% gain. That wouldn't be too hard to notice over a short time period.
LOL 300 pounder:) Try a buck 95 at 6'1" I got up to 230 when I was hurt.

when I had my appendectomy 3 1/2 years ago, I did gain like 10-15lbs because I was pretty careless in what I ate. i also lost 50 lbs after I healed by working out and eating properly for 6 days out of the week, but on the 7th day I ate whatever I wanted.

3 1/2 years later I gained the weight back and that same diet and exercise program that I tried previously did not work. So I went back on Atkins and lost about 35 lbs so far. I can't eat anything sweet without getting sick to my stomach. and like the previous poster stated, this is a way of life, not a fad diet.
