Lessee... as a buyer you're often screwed out of an auction by a "sniper" who bids at the LAST MINUTE for an item, and if you do win the auction it's usually so close to retail you could have bought the item anyway.
As a seller, you're often screwed out of a listing because of deadbeat bidders... even if you DO sell an item there's no guarantee the transaction is over! I once got reamed by a woman who claimed I sold her a 1GB drive rather than the 5GB I auctioned off(!). When I pointed out that SHE had bid on and won a 1GB drive in ADDITION to my 5GB, she mysteriously "realized" that she'd put the drive into the wrong machine. Yeah, right. Bitch.
The only time I'll go to Ebay is when I'm looking for something extremely specific that I can't find cheaper anywhere else, like parts for a laser printer... The "Buy it now" feature is nice but it's often higher than the retail price for an item!
