Poll: What's the most that you'll pay for a video card?

I'm in one of those moods that most of us get in from time to time. My computer works fine. It does what I need it to. It's just a little slow in the new games department (KOTOR, HL2, Doom 3, Sims 2, etc).

I have a Radeon 9700 now. Normally my max for video cards is $200, but I found myself actually thinking about getting a $315 card. It's crazy! I must have bumped my head.

I'm curious, what the most you'll pay for a card?

250. I think my AIW Radeon 9700 Pro will last me a while - I use it mostly for the tuner 😉

just bought a 6800OC for 250 after MIR, great card will last me until the summer when the 6800GT's will be more in my price range

250 is my max

Same. I'm not a gamer and don't need the latest and greatest.

What costs $400 today will cost around $150 down the road, I'd rather just wait.

$200 has been my limit for my last few cards, and I am a gamer. I just stick to my budget though, I don't feel compelled to keep up with the Joneses. My 9800pro treats me just fine.

in 1995 i paid $400 for a video card. that is when i learned high end cards are a waste of money. within a year it was practically worthless

i won't pay more than $100 now

i paid 90-something for my matrox 650 and it is probobly the best card i have ever owned.
I couldn't think of paying more than $100 for something that depreciates almost as fast as a car

200 at most. Thats what I spent on my Radeon 9800 over a year ago (and it STILL costs that much today for some reason). I won't upgrade it until games get choppy and at the moment all the latest games such as Doom 3, Half Life 2, Far Cry..etc all run great and thats with some filtering enabled.

Hmm...

Maybe my card isn't the problem them. HL2 is choppy and loaded with strange discolorations.

For me, it has nothing to do with keeping up with anyone. It has to do with not having to buy another card in a year. I went from a GeForce 4 Ti4600 to a GeForce 6800GT. I should be good for another two years.

a radeon 9600 pro has been holding it's value extremely well over all these years 🙂 i would say stick with a radeon 9700 and buy stuff once every 2 generations.

I told myself I wouldn't buy a 6800GT just because of price, but I got a good deal on one for roughly $375 so I got it.. the main reason was that I got $150 USD for my 9800 Pro, so that helped a lot. 🙂
