POLL: what to do with roommate

Background:

My roommate moved in at the beginning of the winter semester (last semester) and for the first day or so things were fine. Then I realized that he never shuts up, cannot figure things out for himself (read: bugs me constantly about stupid sh!t that even a 6 year old with half a brain could figure out). He also compulsively cleans the room, which isn't a bad thing, except he's starting to resent the fact that he's always cleaning.

He got fired last night (probably because he's a moron), and has been an asshole since. Today, our RA came in and told us to all make an appointment tomorrow after 5 for mediation because "the shower isn't clean." some pics of the shower (bad pictures, taken with a palm IIIc). It's clean.

I'm not so sure what I should do. I'm no longer going to be nice to him; he doesn't deserve it. Beyond that I'm not sure what I should do.

I really think if he doesn't like it, he should move out. I've been here since september, he's been here since december. I'm moving out in 3 months anyway, so why the fvck would this be a problem. I really think he should move out since he's the one with the problem.

EDIT: When I say room, I mean suite. I live in an apartment-style dorm that has 4 single bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. Chad (the dumbass) and I share one of the bathrooms, yet he wants ALL of us to attend the meeting, including Brad, who moved in 2 weeks ago for the spring semester. He hasn't even been here long enough to be a problem.

For people who don't want (or know how) to make a serious vote, and/or just want to see the results.

That's what I'm thinking. This mediation session will be bullsh!t, nothing's going to get accomplished.

Yup. My mediation session ended with my RA saying "ignore the situation". REAL helpful

I dunno, man, that shower looks pretty clean to me. It looks cleaner than ours was this year. Second, I don't think you can technically make him move out, even if he has been there four months less or whatever. If he resents the fact that he's cleaning, well... that's his own fault. If the room has to meet his standards, then I say it's up to him to make sure that happens and not give you hell because of it.

Shower looks ok, though it seems to transform from rose pink to ivory ?? OH well.

Leaning to work out differences can be part of your education. You'll deal with odd, pesky people pretty much your entire life, might as well try to get good at it. You're near the end of the year anyway.

My justification for making him move out is not the fact that I have been here much longer. It is the fact that [/i]HE[/i] is the one with the problem. My other 2 roommates are fine. He should not give me hell because of it, and I'm not going to let him. If he wants it cleaned that bad he's going to have to move.

I forgot to mention that he went straight to the RA instead of talking to me about it first. I am through pretending to like him, through being civil to him. I'm going to tell him as such at the mediation session. It is an insult to me to not talk to me first.

I'm serious when I say fists are probably going to start flying shortly after the session. I'm not going to throw the first punch though.

I deal with odd pesky people all the time without any problems; I just don't want to live with one anymore. Trust me, words cannot describe how annoying he is.

No, I'm not near the end of the year. EMU has a strange schedule. I'm done with the 'normal' year, and this is one of the summer terms (the spring term, a 7 week semester). We're all taking classes until normal school begins again in the fall. I have to put up with him all summer.

I have no idea why that picture turned out pink. The palmpix camera isn't the best solution for taking indoor pictures, and I didn't want to wake my other roommate up to borrow his digital camera. The whole shower is the same white color as the second pic.

I agree with you completely. I wasn't trying to take his side or anything, if that's the way it came out.

Whatever the outcome of the situation, I wish you luck. Dealing with roommates is not something I'm particularly fond of. The best roommates/suitemates are the ones that are never around.

Get the support of your other two roommates.

It will make it a lot easier.

I you are done talking and are certain you want him out (1) get earplugs (2) Wear your walkman whenever he is around and (3)absolutely ignore him.

Good luck and I'd leave violence for self-defense.

Remember this:

Violence is not the answer.

Violence is the question; yes is the answer.

I chose the last poll option.

That's also for any of you who live in florida and happen to be jewish;) (I think that joke has gotten stale)

He's half italian, half arab. Deportation would be a possiblility if he wasn't born here:(

let me pretend i'm solomon here hehe

Since neither an Arab country nor Italy take responsibility for taking this man in, we shall cut the man in 2 and deliver one half to some Arab country and the other half to Italy. Whoever would rather take him in than see him cut in 2 is the real winner so that nation will be the one which does not have to give citizenship to him.

lol.....:D

What does your other two roommates think of Chad?

Violence is for people who doesn't know how to solve problem through civilized manner and don't care much about its consequences. As long as someone is physically larger than the person he/she wants to beat up and is strong enough, he/she can say "you do it my way or I'm gonna kick your ass" and actually do it. It doesn't take much more than monkey's brain to solve problem that way. It probably is not a huge deal for a loser street punk, but students on limited money with a career in their plan can be screwed over big time.

If he calls the police and you tell the officers "I'm tired of his bitching and ignorance, so I beat his ass", they won't be too impressed. If he was assaulted for something like this, he has the right(and a fair chance he will) to press charge you.

Is this matter really worth having to pay thousands in his medical bill+comepsation and some jail time(you might not do jail with the help of a good defendant lawyer, but how much money do you think you'll throw away doing this?)
