Bleh, I don't care for table-driven webdev. But #2 looked the best IMO.

How do they sell those for so cheap? Surely it took at least a couple hours to create each one, so they're getting paid maybe 5-10 bucks an hour? Doesn't seem like a great way to make money.

I agree with every word he said... except the part about not liking tables.

Volume sales. They create a template and sell it for $20. Say they sell it to 5 or 10 people, thats $100-$200. You have to realize something about the web, people want things easy and cheap. For $20, someone is likely to bite...

My buddy was in this business (he was one of these template developers) and they were paid hardly any money to do this work. Basically what he got was a way to get "web design" on his resume out of the whole experience, and that counted a lot for him because now he's making it full time elsewhere.

I do web for a living, but I'd consider buying $15-$20 templates if I were short on time. No one loses.

Yeah, but for all you know, it could be a single person who owns that site and does it as a hobby. Any money after hosting costs is just pure profit. It looks like a lot, but a lot of designs are repeated with different colors. Most of the time you can change that by modifying the hue...
