Alright, yes, i would want a 24x speed burner; who wouldnt for the right price? but the thing is, most "cheap" CDR mediums are certified around 12x-16x. but burners like the lite-on 24x and TDK 24x would require higher-rated cdrs, right? i buy my cheap-o cdrs for around $15 for a 100-pack. but i would probably guess that 24x certified cdrs are more expensive than 15 cents. and then there are those new 32x speeds coming out "soon" i think.... opinions? :D

you can burn at a lower rate if you don't have the right cds.

BTW, i've had cds rated at 4x and 2x that burned fine on my 8x. my friend picked up a QPS 24x and used 12x cds at 16 and 20x with no problem either. not sure if he tried 24x with those though.

i don't see the benefits of high high speed cdrw unless you are producing pirated softwares :)

This is true - you can burn at a lower rate if you don't have the highly rated CD-Rs and you can also try to burn the cheap CD-Rs at a high rate and if the burner cannot do it, it should just scale down to something that works. A lot of the new burners can do this. So, you start it at 24X and if it can't burn that fast, it scales back to 16X or 12X to complete the burn. Anyway, if you are really concerned about it, just get a 16X and save some money. The faster burners don't really save you that much more time anyway (they are all Zone-CAV or some such). Just don't get the Yamaha 16X because it is the only one that is 16X Zone-CAV. Go with Lite-On ,TDK, Aopen or if you have a lot of money, Plextor.

yeah, then what's the point of getting a faster burner? hahhah! but then again.. my cds that come out in 7 mins just takes waaaaaayyy too long... i want my cds NOW! or at least in 3.5 min!!! also, the advantages of having some sort of "burn-proof" technology makes a difference
