Now that Android N is Nougat, I decided to do a poll on what you think the name for Android "O" should be.

My vote is Orange Crush.

They've already had Kitkat - Oreo makes the most sense.

Besides which, it is instantly recognizable as something sweet that begins with O.

Other: oliebol

'O' is a bit sparse for well known stuffs, although the one I listed is regionally well known as far as I can tell. It seems like a branded name is the easier way to go, but they might see see the difficulty as a challenge and try to step up.

It'll be interesting. Oreo has a lot of potential, but it does seem too easy.

Of course, for Orange Crush, Orange Juilius, Oreo, and Ovaltine, Google would have to come to an agreement with the manufacturers. Google was able to do so with Nestle for KitKat, however, it appears that they failed to do so with Ferrero for Nutella (which I wouldn't be surprised if it received the most votes), which is why Google settled on Nougat instead.

I like Orange Sherbet, but if they can't secure rights to name it Oreo, it'll probably be Oatmeal Cookie.

no love for ovaltine? smh

"Why do they call it Ovaltine? The containers round, the mug's round...they should call it, Roundtine. That's gold, Jerry, gold!"

I voted for Oatmeal Cookie. That just sounds right to me for some reason.

It would be nice if everyone stops mentioning KitKat. I would hope that we all know that KitKat was licensed, and therefore set a precedent that it can be done. At least we should know that, it's been said enough already. Let's also remember that the next two named versions have not been licensed. As time has marched on, KitKat has appeared more and more as a one-off thing.

Orange Sherbet is the most dessert-like to me, although I suspect it'll be something else to keep it short and (dare I say it) sweet.

Orange Crush would make REM happy, though.

Long names don't seem to be much of a problem for Google, considering we have had Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).

I just think Google will want to shy away from longer names when it can, if just for marketing.

Really? What was this bad experience with KitKat?

On the All About Android podcast one of the guys at Android Police was saying that the Kitkat experience wasn't what Google expected. Google expected an easy "yes" to a no-brainer co branding effort, instead they had to negotiate a deal involving lawyers and billable hours.

Much like anything else if Google has to deal with people they are outtie.

Yup

Google will not bother with another trademarked name.

Orange Chiffon Cake, of course!

But, google will call it Oatmeal and we'll eat it up (and spit it out when they're not looking)

TBH I thought Marshmallow was a strange choice. I guess it is technically a dessert food but not a real dessert food like an ice cream sandwich or KitKat or Jelly Bean.
