Rob,

I just sent a test mail to myself from one address to another on a different server using rob@hikefordiabetes.org as the return address, but with my own SMTP and POP entries, and it went through just fine.

I just outlook simply because it comes with win2k/98. No need to buy/install any other additional software.

Outlook Express

It works with newsgroups as well so no need for extra software. It does do that reply to trick to. A Plus is that hotmail accounts are syncronized with whatever folders are online. You move stuff from folder to folder right from outlook express, microsoft comes up with a useful feature once in a while.

I get this error no matter what client I'm using:

<< The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'robcole42@hotmail.com'. Subject 'Testing...', Account: 'robcole.deskmail.washington.edu', Server: 'mailhost.u.washington.edu', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 <robcole42@hotmail.com>... Relaying denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 >>

I've been all about web based mail lately too, simply because I like to be able to check my email at school and work as well at home, and have it all in one box, etc.

but when I'm doing pop3, I use MS Outlook 2000 as well

i think some SMTP servers don't allow you to send with a return address different from their's...its happened to me before when i use to mess with my friends by using their email as the return to pretend i "hacked" into their account (some people really get scared 😀)

i use Eudora Light...its not very bloated to me...opens in less than 3 seconds and i'm only on an AMD K6-2 350 w/ 64 megs of ram...

eudora. but only version <= 3. have to use outlook at work, and it isn't fun at all. also use pine, that's good too.
