Poll: What is your preference on notebook size?

Ideally, I prefer 15.4" notebooks with a resolution of 1440x900. I've been noticing an increased popularity on 13.3" lately. And no, I'm not talking about netbooks here.

Probably 12-14". I have a 14" now and I think when it comes time to replace this laptop, I'll go with a 12 or 13" and just get a monitor and/or desktop for larger viewing area and heaver computing tasks (such as if I decide to start playing games again).

I've always found 15.4 to be too big for my tastes. I absolutely LOVE 13.3. For most of them (Prime examples are sony SZ and dell xps 1330), the keyboard is still basically fullsize, just the bezel around the keyboard is smaller. Small enough and light enough to be considered a very portable laptop (maybe not quite ultraportable, but for me it is), and in the case of my sony SZ, still has a semi respectable graphics card in it (geforce 8400).

12" SXGA+ (1440x1050). I have it on my thinkpad tablet. It's very nice. Though I'd try the tablet up to put the SXGA+ lcd onto my 2.7lb thinkpad. Much lighter.

I haven't tried 13" lcd yet, but that might be nice too if it wasn't widescreen. I write code and read websites so I don't like to scroll too much.

Just bought a Samsung R610. 16" running at 1366 x 768. While this may be viewed as a weird screen size/resolution by some. I find it very easy on the eyes and I have more than enough screen real estate to work with. I know a lot of people who run their laptops and desktops at below native resolution because they have trouble reading the small print. As you get older, you'll come face to face with this problem.

hell, my 14" thinkpad is my primary.

15.4" because that's borderline for being too big/heavy and you can still find the occasional decent GPU.

I do have desktop gaming PCs at the house. My 17" Laptop is a combo of work and gaming PC that I take with me to work or wherever I travel. Mainly when I travel away from home/work now since I keep a SG03 SFF rig at work. I'm using the laptop less and less. Notebooks are too costly to upgrade as far as gaming units go. At least IMO they are. One of the reasons I moved to SFF units. I should mention I'am traveling much less these days than I used to.

I've always been against notebooks as I've always seen them as way too expensive versus a similarly specced desktop. I bought a cheapo laptop on a Black Friday deal a couple of years ago and since Vista choked on it, I ended up switching to Linux full time, and I'm happier for it, I haven't turned on my main rig for close to two months now. I don't game as much as I used too, but I am looking to get back into it. I like the portability that any notebook affords and I think I will be looking at 16" gaming laptops that can do 1920 x 1080 or something whereabouts. That would be a full desktop replacement notebook that would handle business and pleasure.

If you are just looking for something to do some word processing and internet browsing I would get myself a nice little netbook.

I like the 13.3" screen on my MacBook. There have been times where I wished that it was 1440*900 instead of the 1280*800 res that it is, but I think that the only 13.3" screen with that res is on the Lenovo x300, and that is just too expensive (and doesn't run OS X).

I think that the largest I would be willing to use is a 15.4". All the 17" machines that I have used have just felt way to huge for me.

Actually, I don't have a laptop ops; but from what I have seen, I wouldn't really care what size, as long as it was 12 inches or up. (gah, puny netbook screens)

I think 13.3'' is a good compromise between portability and usability. At the moment I have two laptops: 12'' and 15.4'' that I only use at home. If I had to buy a single laptop I'd choose a 13.3'' and maybe at home I'd connect it a monitor and an external keyboard

I miss laptops with 4:3, 5:4 resolutions like 1152x854 and 1024x768... what the eff ever happened to those? IMO it is better for reading webpages and documents, as I don't read those sideways(duh).

It seems to me the "widescreen" laptops are all about A. Marketing(bigger numerical size, not much if any extra real estate) B. Fitting more in the laptop and still having a smaller screen.
