Some folks have multiple solutions. Vote for whatever you use for your most important stuff I guess. If I've missed any please note it so I can add to the list.

I use go back to make an image on the same drive and i also use raid once in a while to make a mirror of my main HD to my econdary HD. By the way folks Go Back,,,WORKS. 2 times win2k wouldnt log (not even from safe mode) in cause of non existing page file (installed a program that messed it up) and goback reverted my HD in the state it was 2 hours ago. Heck i managed to revert my HD to a state it was 19 hours ago.

Restore Cd, Copy of win2k.

Burn off the important contacts and documents, which don't really exceed 700mb.

I write down the contents of my hard drive with a pencil and carbon-copy paper.

HAHA! good one!
regarding GOBACK, is it a memory hog ? I'm assuming you have to have it running in the background.

I have a second hard drive which I copy files to when I'm about to reformat... this makes it really easy to reformat... usually under 2 hours to have the entire computer running, OS, patched, all programs i use are installed... etc...

I have two partitions: one for the OS and one for data storage. I have a program called RapidBackup that copies over my "Documents and Settings" to my my data partition.

To backup the data partition (14 gigs), I simply select all contents of the drive, and paste it over to my backup drive on my network.

Is it safe to be backing up in such a way? I don't think I've been having any problems with it so far, though.

backup?

Format C:

:)

honestly, other than that, my win2k bare ghost image.. the rest is all on cd for reinstall.. i really dont want a 10 gig ghost file so it's a pain in the butt, but that's what i get for installing junk i probably dont use 1% of the time..

i used to have a firewire drive. but that was expensive and i needed money. i've been running win2k and now xp, and i dont think there is any reason i should have to reinstall so unless my hard drive crashes or someone steals my laptop i'm ok. If i was gonna reinstall i'd just backup my email, saved zipfiles and documents and mp3s to another computer over the network, reinstall xp and put it back.
