I would like to know what compents are keeping your system from being the ultimate kickass machine around. For my main system, its the ASUS 6800 Deluxe video card. I have upgraded the CPU a couple of times since I got the card but my 3dmark2000 scores remain unaffected.

I don't have any weak links in my system. I bought all top notch components when I bought it 5 months ago so that I wouldn't have to deal with obsolesense right away.

I didnt put a floppy answer because that is basically a given. Floppies will always be slow. :)

<< the Kenwood 72x (slower than a 36x in real life) >>

Sounds like you got a bad Kenwood drive. Mine operates about 1 1/2 times as fast as a 50x drive. I know certain drives ended up being defective out of the 72x's. If you can still return it, return it as defective and get yourself a new one. If you can't, try updating your firmware.

The firmware is the latest on the 72x. It won't even read the Road Runner disk which is Factory Pressed. Kenwood really pissed me off on the phone like it was my problem and not theirs. I followed instructions to a tee. I payed $120 for this drive. I will never buy Kenwood again! For one thing, it can't even do 72x, fastest possible is 68x from what I can see "IF" you can get it to read a disk well enough. A simple WindowsME installation took about 4 hours on this thing. I don't want another $hitty 72x to try out... if they would refund it I would do that.

Ummm, ahhh no...........nothing really......The only way to get a higher 3DMark2000 score is a GF2 Ultra I think

The slowest thing? Hmm...the floppy drive, or maybe the 64mg pc100 ram, maybe the 16Mg video card, hell...EVERYTHING!--Until my project is finished that is!

probably the OS. Win2k is great, but it doesn't want to use all 512MB of RAM, it'll go up to near 256MB and then hits the swap file. I didn't buy that extra 256MB for nothing, dammit!

I guess the CL3 Generic 192MB PC100 RAM... although my sys is only on a 100mhz bus (P3 700) on an Abit BX6-2 (aka Rev. 2 or 2.0).

This one's easier than you guys think: the slowest thing in everyone's machine is the parallel port, closely followed by the serial port. And these legacy components drag down the entire system performance.

Funny thing is, I just got a Proliant M350. I doubt a single one of these server machines will ever have anything connected to the parallel or serial ports, but Compaq drags the performance with these things anyway...

"I would like to know what compents are keeping your system from being the ultimate kickass machine around..."..

i wouldn't consider the parallel port by any means to be preventing my sys. from being the ultmiate kickass machine...in fact, it's not slowing down my system at all, nor is it slowing down my printing speeds, since my printer is only capable of 5ppm printing...in fact, i'd have to think your printer would need to be 50ppm before the parallel port started hindering its performance...

same goes for serial port, since i dont' use them...

same goes for my ISA slot which is occupied by a 56K modem...
