Das Boot is the one all others are judged by. U571 is kind of like Das Boot but in reverse. U571 has good dynamic range and the impact of the depth charges is quite moving to say the least. Too bad the rest of the movie doesn't hold up. (as well as Das Boot, anyway...)

I consider The Abyss and Sphere submarine movies as well since they took place beneath the surface.
