Poll: What is the best dialup modem you have used?

IMHO, the best hardware modems are from USRobotics (now 3Com).

Well, according to the box, it is model 1171 (which is a 28.8 Sportster Voice box with a little 'Now with 33.6 Kbps data' splash graphic in the lower right hand corner). The modem isn't installed at the moment, so I can't check the s/n with the method you suggest, Pretty Cool, but if this info. isn't enough. let me know and I'll install the dang thing! On the product sticker that is affixed to the card itself the s/n reads like this: 0011710063252823. If you've got the files I need to upgrade it, I'd be much obliged. TIA.

Sorry, that modem is not flash upgradable. Flashable models were 117102. You have 117100.

If I remember correctly, that modem was either upgraded via swap or with a chip in a socket. Most likely, you had to physically send to modem back to USR for an exchange.

Well, Pretty Cool, thanks for checking. That kinda bites, though. I was pretty bummed about the whole upgrade deal when they first tried to charge me for the update, anyway, so I guess I'm not too surprised. USR is suck! Nonetheless, I appreciate your help. The folks on this board never cease to amaze me.
